7 Thank Yous For My Best Friend Of 13 Years
Jessica Xiques

13 years. It’s been 13 years since I met my best friend. From playing with barbies to fighting over them, our friendship has faced some roller coaster. We grew up together and it was always Abbey and Jessica.

Dear Abbey,

I know I say this all the time, but thank you. Thank you for always being my go to. I don’t know what I would do without you. Here are 7 big thank yous to you, Abigail.

1. Thank you for putting up with me for so long.

I am one annoying ass bitch. So good for you for sticking around for 13 years. Especially when it comes to boys, god I would hate me. But this is why you’re my best friend.

2. Thank you for the Polo and Gym shoe days.

You know exactly what I’m talking about. We would show up to school with our pink polos tucked into our khakis wearing a belt. But we had on blue gym shoes. And, we thought we were so cute. Those are the days I look back on and cherish the most. This is why you’re my best friend.

3. Thank you for all of the sleepovers.

We would try and stay up til 3 to try and be cool like my sister. We ended up falling asleep by 11. That’s if I didn’t go home that night because I missed my mom. You always fell asleep after me and still do. This is why you’re my best friend.

4. Thank you for going through puberty with me.

There’s no one else who could understand the difficulty of puberty like us. We thought we were cute, but oh my god. We looked terrible. I still had my snaggle tooth and you still had bangs. Thank God for braces. I’ll never forget the lame selfies we took. This is why you’re my best friend.

5. Thank you for loving the Jonas Brothers just as much as I did.

I feel like if the Jonas Brothers were never famous, we wouldn’t be as good of friends as we are now. The Jonas Brothers have always been our loves. I still love Joe and you still love Nick. I’ll never forget when you drooled over Nick. This is why you’re my best friend.

6. Thank you for always telling me the truth.

No matter what it is, you’ve always given me your honest opinion. When it comes to boys, I tend to get a little out of control and you always bring me right back where I need to be. Thank you for your honesty and keeping me in check. This is why you’re my best friend.

7. Thank you for all of the laughs.

We probably have the dumbest inside jokes, but it’s that stuff that keeps me smiling to this day. Not a day goes by where I don’t think about, “Neney” or “Rosy Red”. We were and are still so weird. I hope you read this with the "sharp S". Start itching. You’re probably hating me for this right now. But, this is why you’re my best friend.

There’s too much of our friendship to give to the world, but for now, this is what they're going to get. Thank you so much for being you, Abbey. You never fail to keep me going. I’m so lucky to have you in my life. Thank you for 13 years of friendship. 87 more to go.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
