To those who wear blue,
Thank you for your service every day. I know you put your life on hold to protect ours; Every morning you leave your children, parents, spouse, family, and friends to watch out for everyone else. People make the argument that "it's your job," but even though it was a career choice, it comes with more danger than many other jobs.
I respect you and your work. You definitely deserve more credit than what you're given. When I hear people use disgusting words about the police, I feel sick. Yes, every now and then you'll meet a cop who's rude and nasty, but there're some nasty people in every field. The bulk of police love their jobs and are very caring people.
With the scary world we live in today, it must be hard to wake up in the morning and know that there's a chance you could have a gun pulled on you or that you may need to walk into a bombing. Police are often first responders, which means they arrive at chaotic scenes all the time. They have the responsibility of trying to keep order when they may not even know exactly what is going on yet.
The media tends to portray police pulling guns on innocent people all too often. I think any normal person who was carrying a gun would pull it if a gun was pulled on him or her first. The media rarely shows when police do great things for children and poor people. Police have stopped pedestrians to give them Christmas gifts, played practical jokes on people, and have light hearted and good fun; the media "forgets" to show these kind acts that police partake in. These types of videos are always trending on social media, but they are rarely ever on television.
Your uniform is like a superhero costume. You put it on and fend off evil every day. You work through the night to protect us from drunk drivers and other criminals who put us in danger, but the media doesn't portray that.
I was raised to have respect for people who hold authority, but I know many people weren't raised that way or just don't listen. I understand that you don't wake up in the morning looking to give out traffic tickets for fun, but many people are ignorant and don't realize that.
I'm sorry that you have to deal with so many people who think that they are above you. I will always respect you and your job. You deserve more credit. Thank you again for your continued service and dedication to the community. Stay safe in your superhero costume!
Blue lives matter.
Love always,
Those who you protect everyday
