I came into college not knowing a single person. I was from a completely different state, and ahead of me was the opportunity to make friends at a university with thousands of students. Now, more than a full semester has passed, and as I look back, I realize how lucky I am to have found some of the most wonderful people possible in this short time.
So, this is me saying thank you to the friends I have made so far in college.
Thank you for being there for me. You guys are people I know I can always count on, people I know will have my back no matter what. You guys are the people who have been supportive when even some of my oldest friends weren’t.
Thank you for supporting me. You encourage me to be the best I possibly could be. You encourage me to study well. You encourage me to be social and have fun, and even when I come up with an idea we all know could potentially end in disaster, well, you encourage me to go ahead and do it because you know I’ll have no regrets.
Thank you for listening to me, for being the people whose shoulders I can cry on. For being the people I can text at 3 a.m. or whose room I can show up at crying, whether it’s about school, family or even just me complaining about a stupid boy. Thank you for never getting tired of the fact that I talk too much.
Thank you for understanding how weird I am. I say and do the weirdest things. I am that person who you’ll look at and think, “Is she sober?” I am unapologetically strange. I tweet weird things, come up with random inside jokes and take ugly Snapchats. And instead of finding it insane, y’all just join me and act just as weird as I do.
Thank you for being the people I can always spend time with. From laying out near the pool to getting food together for sitting in a dorm room and doing absolutely nothing until four in the morning, we spend such an incredibly crazy amount of time together. And yet, we never get bored. We can spend a full day together, and the next day, we’ll once again be making plans to meet up.
Most of all, thank you for letting me finally believe the saying, “You make your lifelong friends in college.” I sincerely do believe all of you will be around in my life for a long, long time.
So here’s to when we’re 80 and in old age homes but still laughing about the crazy things we did in college.
