As many say, the best things in life are free. I can relate. Becoming an aunt is something everyone should experience. There is so much to it. Waiting the whole ten months for my sister to deliver the most precious baby boy. (Yes, I said ten months.) The excitement began the first day I found out my sister was pregnant, my heart grew bigger from that day forward.
When I say my heart grew bigger, I mean I think it literally got bigger inside of my chest. Then the day finally came that my sister went into labor.
That 2 a.m. call I received saying it was time to go to the hospital. We anxiously waited all day for baby boy to arrive.
Then, the time finally came.
4:18 p.m.
At that moment, I knew everyone in the hospital room fell in love. It felt as if my sister wouldn't give him up for anyone else to hold. Watching my sister grow into a mother was something so admirable. I could never thank my sister enough for the gift she gave me. Maybe the timing wasn't right at the moment we found out she was pregnant, but the moment she delivered my nephew we knew the timing was right.
It has now been an entire year of being an auntie. I must say it is still one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me. It makes going home from college that much better. Walking through the front door and seeing his big happy smile when he looks up at me, seeing him crawl to me and attempting to climb up me trying to get all my attention, but most of all, the best thing is just having this little human that is so innocent look up to you. Watching him grow into something incredible.
As the years go by, I hope my nephew knows that I want nothing but the best for him. A special place in my heart was found when he was born. As his first birthday approaches, there are so many things I would do to go back to the day my sister laid this precious baby in my arms for the first time. I hope and pray his future is bright and he is able to accomplish everything he wants.
Another thing I would like to say again is thank you. Thank you to my sister for raising the perfect baby boy so far. I couldn't ask for better.
Being an aunt became my favorite thing to do.
