A Thank You To My Friends And Family

One of my high school friends recently passed away and it just made me think about how short life is and how we need to remind people important to us how much they matter. I don’t want to leave anybody out or seem more partial to some people so I will break it into two parts: Friends and Family.

To my friends: I appreciate you all. Through the good times and the bad, when I’m freaking out and when I’m excited. Thank you for dining hall trips at 1am during finals week and for being there at 1pm when I failed my latest test and I’m a mess. Thank you for caring for me like a sibling, for Netflix binge watching, Thursday night TV, and ultimately making me a better person. Thank you because I know that I can call any of you any day of the week and you’ll answer the phone immediately and help me rationalize whatever I’m feeling. Thank you for fourth of July fireworks, trips to Starbucks, and crafting runs. Thank you for laughing at the funny pictures I send, my terrible jokes, and dealing with my awful driving. Thank you for obsessing over Christmas music and holidays with me and allowing me into your homes. I will drive any distance for y’all and no matter how far you are I will come visit. You’re all my favorite people and I wouldn’t trade you for the world.

To my family: What can I say? Y’all have been here since my birth, you’re stuck with me! Thank you all for loving me unconditionally even when I begin to worry y’all with my life choices. Thank you for food, shelter, kindness, and reprimand me when its needed. Thank you for all of your support through my endeavors, always telling me to follow my dreams, and always making time to come to my sports games. Thank you for the laughter, the tears, and everything in-between. Thank you for countless holidays together where we can spend time playing games (spoons…js) and catching up. Thank you for helping me pay for college/textbooks. Thank you for making me the woman I am today. I love you and thank you.

Life is too short to not appreciate the important people in your life. I love all of my friends and family more than I can put into words but this was as close as I could get. So feel free to share this with your loved ones to remind them how much you care.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
