An Open Letter To My Forever Friends

To my forever friends,

I love you all so much. Every time I’m around you all I feel so thankful because I know that you have each been individually placed in my life for a reason.

Thank you for always getting food with me at any hour of the day, including the night. Thank you for sitting with me during the long dreadful chapter meetings every Tuesday night and laughing at it all. Thank you for saving me seats in class when I’m running late and for laughing at me when I say that my life makes me sad. Thank you for taking me to the doctor’s office, even when I can go alone, but wanting to go for emotional support. Thank you for telling me the truth even when you know it’s going to hurt or when you know it’s not what I want to hear.

I know that y’all are the friends that will be standing behind me at my wedding or sitting on the front row with my family. I thank you for letting me borrow your clothes and for pulling all-nighters with me even when you don’t have a test the next morning. Every morning when I wake up, I love walking out into the hall knowing I will see one of you with a smiling face, even if it’s 7:30 in the morning.

To the forever friends I don’t live with, I love knowing that I will see you at some point throughout the day because 12 to 24 hours can’t keep us apart. I thank you for making me take love language tests so that you know how to love me the best you can, and for appreciating how I show my love for you best.

Thank you for sitting down during study sessions and watching engagement videos or sifting through pictures of babies and crying over them. Thank you for staying in with me on Friday or Saturday nights and eating chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream with me out of a tub and drinking sparkling cider out of the bottle as we watch "P.S. I Love You," after a heartbreak. Thank you for driving me 45 minutes to the lake just because we need to escape from reality for the day. Thank you for going to Publix and buying things to make a nice dinner with me, just because I miss homemade food.

Thank you for being the friends I know will stick by me through thick and thin because in the small time we have known each other you have already done so, so many times.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
