This semester is finally over. No more tests, late night study sessions in the STEM building, and no more class for four whole months. Summer is here, and I have never been so ready to enjoy my time off. With that being said, I am going to miss one part about this semester, and it is my Legal & Ethical Issues in Business class.
Business 340, for short, was a challenging class to say the least. However, I had a professor that changed my life for the better, and this was quite possibly the class that has had more influence on me as a person than any other class. From being a lawyer to a pastor and now my professor, he was extremely qualified to teach this class. He started every class off with a mini sermon, and it always lifted me up for that day.
"Do the right thing. Always do the right thing."
This is what Mr. Saunders would usually tell my class before we would be dismissed. Every Tuesday and Thursday at 1:00 pm, I would enter a room with a professor who cared about investing in us as people as well as teaching us the course. I have gained so much knowledge and grown in my faith because of what he has said to me and my peers. My professor was so confident and solid when it came to his relationship with God, it showed in every single thing he did. He has truly inspired me to be a better person, and to share my light with others.
At the beginning of the semester, he told us that his goal was to influence our hearts and develop our minds. This is so impactful because most professors want to simply teach the class and make sure their students do well. Mr. Saunders truly cared about what was going on in our lives. I wrote an article about him earlier in the semester, and I could not think of a better person to write about again.
Some of my favorite Saunderisms from the class were:
-"Being thankful will change your heart and change your life. Find areas to be thankful in."
-"What would you want Jesus to do for you? What would you say to Him? We trust God for way too little."
-"God demonstrates His love for us. He has a plan for us that we don't even know about. It's amazing how God weaves this beautiful picture. Stop and thank God."
-"If you're seeking to get, that's not love. If you seek to give, that's love."
-"Evaluate your friendships. Take an hour, and if they're not bringing you closer to God maybe it's time to cut your losses."
-"If you think that Christianity is lame, maybe you're not giving it your all. Why would you live half a life with God? The journey is so much better with God."
-"We need to start looking through people like they are God's creation. Grace is undeserved. Follow Christ with all you've got. You need to demonstrate your love of Christ."
-"Don't let your faith be small."
-"What drives you? You're God's masterpiece. An attitude change like that could change your life. Never think you know it all because you don't. Be a lifelong learner. See yourself as a masterpiece."
-"Everyday you're given a sponge full of opportunity. Use every opportunity. Grab life by the throat."
Mr. Saunders, thank you for being the best professor I have ever had. I may not have always been in class, or have participated as much as you would have liked, but I have learned more about life in this semester than I have in school. I promise that I will continue to live a radical life for God. I will use my writings to glorify God, and I will never forget this class.
