This past Tuesday, the 10th, President Obama gave his Farewell Address in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. The atmosphere of that room was filled with warmth and love. Watching him give his speech left me and a lot of other millennials with such a bittersweet feeling. For many of us, Obama is the only President we have really known, too young to truly understand politics when President Bush was in office, and just a baby or a toddler when President Clinton was in office. All of these feeling rushing in encouraged me to write a thank you letter to the man who has shaped my idea of how a President should run the country with grace, sincerity, and dignity.
Dear President Obama,
Thank you for staying true to yourself. Even when faced with adversity, you remained your kind and humble self. Thank you for showing our people that if we work hard and believe in ourselves we can be anything we want to be. Thank you for showing young black boys that their only option isn't being a basketball player, a football player, or an inmate. Thank you for raising such beautiful daughters along with your wonderful wife Michelle, and shaping them to become role models for young girls and especially young black girls.
Thank you for showing us what love looking like, with just a simple look at your wife we can see that she's your whole world. Thank you for openly admitting that your wife is your backbone and that she has been your driving for since day one. Thank you for listening to the lower and middle-class and continuously fighting for their will and right to affordable healthcare, and good paying jobs, and comfortable living conditions. Thank you for being that representative for all minorities and standing up for us when we felt that our voice was so small.
Thank you for being honest about who you are and showing every side of you, whether it be the good, the bad and even the ugly. Thank you for all the work you've done and all the love you've spread regardless of those dedicated to spreading hate.
President Obama, I respect the work you have done for this country, and I truly appreciate the grace and dignity that you have upheld while in office.
Thank you President Obama, you will be missed.
