This is a thank you note to all of the teachers I have had, whether you have encouraged me or made me wish I wasn't in your class. Teachers have a very strong impact on their students, and without you I probably wouldn't have realized that I want to become a teacher.
First off, thank you to the teachers that part of me wishes I never had. You were not there for me as a teacher should be. I worked so hard to receive some sort of encouragement from you, but I never recieved it. I dreaded going to your class and I dreaded interacting with you. You treated me as if I was stupid and no matter what I did you were never happy with me. To you, teaching was just a job that you had to show up for. You didn't enjoy it and that radiated from you every minute of class. And the sad thing is, you probably don't even realize how horrible it was for me to be in your class. But, despite the complaining I did when I would come home everyday, I can honestly say you taught me one thing. You taught me what type of teacher I refuse to become. Thanks to you, I want to become a teacher so my students don't have the horrible experience I had with teachers.
Now, to the teachers I had who went above and beyond what I thought a teacher should do, thank you a million times. When I was knocked down emotionally you were there to help me back up and you kept me focused. I could tell that you really did enjoy teaching. You made learning seem like something exciting and fun, and I always looked forward to your classes even if I wasn't interested in the subject. Our time in class was open and engaging. I didn't feel like I would be made to look stupid if I answered a question wrong. And even if I did volunteer a wrong answer you would guide me to the correct one. You taught me that if I don't understand something I should ask questions until I do. Looking back at it all now, maybe you were more of a mentor than a teacher. You have not only shaped me into someone who tries her hardest in all of her classes but you have also had an impact on me deciding that I want to become a teacher like you. Maybe most important is that you taught me that teaching does not have to be a chore, but that it can be something I look forward to everyday. So thank you, for everything you have done for me and for everything you continue to do for your students.
Thank you to all of my teachers. You all had some roll in making me want to become a teacher and showing me what teaching styles work well in classrooms. Thank you for putting in your time and effort, most of you, and for showing me that I can be an amazing teacher for my future students.
