A kind soul, fierce warrior, and loving embrace. These are just some of the terms that could be used to describe the woman that I call my mother. She has been with me from the start, helping me learn, catching me when I fall, and supporting me in every way possible. One day of gratitude is not nearly enough to express the love and respect that I hold for her, so here are fifty more thank yous, for any day of the year.

1. Thank you for loving me even when I am rude.

2. Thank you for supporting me in my decisions.

3. Thank you for having the courage to voice your opinion, even when it is not met with open arms.

4. Thank you loving my friends as if they were your own.

7. Thank you for getting angry with me, sometimes I needed it.

8. Thank you for all the sacrifices you have made.

12. Thank you for packing my lunch was I was little.

13. Thank you for entertaining my dreams, even the crazy ones.

33. Thank you for allowing me to paint my room multiple times, it allowed my environment to mature with me.

34. Thank you for giving me books.

37. Thank you for admitting you make mistakes.

38. Thank you for showing me what it means to forgive.

39. Thank you for knowing what family really means.

40. Thank you for protecting me.

41. Thank you for fighting for me, and teaching me when I had to fight.

43. Thank you for teaching me about money, and how to treat it.

44. Thank you for preparing me for the real world.

45. Thank you for giving me valid expectations.

46. Thank you for spending time outside, and encouraging the same with me.

47. Thank you knocking some sense into me every once in a while.

48. Thank you for showing me how to be independent.

49. Thank you for teaching me that I don't have to rely on anyone else to be happy.

50. Thank you for being my mom.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines.
