Dear Mom: You're My Best Friend

Dear Mom,

First of all, I just want to say how lucky I am to have a mom like you. I know at times you doubt yourself, but there is no need. You are the most selfless person I know and I am so thankful to be raised by a women like you. I know being a mom is hard, but you pull it off flawlessly, whether you're taking care of me while I'm sick or whether we're rocking out in the car to our favorite songs. Mom you are so much more than just my mom and I want you to know just how much you mean to me.

I want to thank you for pushing me to the limit. I know I am as stubborn as a mule, but honestly I get my stubbornness from you and you know that. Seriously though, I know the only reason I've gotten this far is because you've pushed me to do and be the best that I can be. You have stayed up so many late nights with me and, trust me, your hard work has not gone unnoticed.

Thank you for always being there for me. You always know what to say and how to make me feel better no matter what the situation is. Whether it's me and my friends having drama or that I got a bad grade on a math test, I know that I can always turn to you to help me in any situation. Thank you for being my #1 fan.

Thank you for letting me express my self in anyway I choose. You have never forced me do anything I didn't want to do or force me into wearing something I didn't want to wear. Thank you for always supporting my ways and what I want to do, even if I want to dye my hair bright pink you're still right beside me supporting me.

Lastly, I want to thank you for being my best friend. Whether I have good news or bad news you are the first person I call. We look alike too! Even though you don't think we do, most people think you are my sister. I also love hearing that I look and act just like you, that's the best compliment I could ever get. Thank you for showing me exactly the type of mother, friend and role model I want to be in life. I love you so very much and I hope you know that. Thank you again for everything you do for me!

Love always,

Your baby girl!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
