A Thank You Letter To The Guy Who Stepped Up

It takes a unique man to step in and take on a role he never asked for. For me, my uncle took on multiple roles in my life. Not only is he my uncle, he is my best friend and also a father figure in my life. Never once was he asked to wear so many hats, but he did with no complaints. I know that it was not easy juggling such roles, but you continue to do it daily. Being that I was raised by a single mother, which many girls are used to, I was lucky. I was lucky to have a man in my life who was able to offer me more than just a father figure. I know you hate mushy, lovey stuff, so get ready because this is the thank you that you deserve and much more! I am forever grateful you are such a great person.

Thank you for being my uncle, my father figure, and my best friend.

Dear Uncle,

Thank you for always answering my frantic phone calls when I need to know how to put air in my tire or when I am needing help on how to check my oil. Thank you for always keeping me calm, when I feel like the car maintenance place is ripping me off! Also, thank you for always making sure that I get home safe when I am commuting back and forth from home and school. Thank you for buying me pepper spray when I went off to college and telling me to always be safe, especially at night! I have you to thank for my nice pink accessory on my keys! Thank you for washing my car without me even asking and making sure I have gas in my car.

Secondly, thank you for showing me how a man should treat a woman. Thank you for always going to extra mile for me and treating me with respect, I now hold a high standard for every guy I meet. If I am lucky enough to meet a man just like you, I will be doing good!

Growing up, you made things easier because I was able to have a male role model in my life. I never felt that loss, because you stepping up was such an incredible, loving experience. You played the roles of three people and helped raise me into who I am today. You were able to be my friend, but also my guidance for when I needed that father figure. I consider myself very lucky to have you! I would not want it any other way.

Thank you for being a part of every milestone in my life, throughout those awkward pre-teen years, to high school graduation, and even moving me into my freshman dorm room!

Lastly, thank you for doing this all and having such a kind heart while doing it. You are so humble and so giving! No amount of "thank yous" will ever be enough to show you how grateful I am to have you as my best friend and role model.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
