Being a millennial, I am too often associated with those who partake in this large electric music craze or hip-hop music, which I do, of course, occasionally listen to since I am constantly surrounded by people who enjoy it. But, I am here to express gratitude to a revolution of music that had our ancestors rolling in their graves when it achieved popularity -- rock 'n' roll. I am here to say that I am a millennial who wishes everyday to be able to go back in time and live when rock n roll was turning the world around and creating a new sense of revolution in society and transcending the listeners into whole new beings.
I am here to give a big thank you to all of the rockstars who changed music forever.
Thank you, rock 'n' roll, for making society think-you made people question what really was going on in this forever-changing world and fight against it. Rock 'n' roll is not only a form of music, but it is a form of culture. From festivals like Woodstock, to songs representing a fight against the man, music brought an entire generation completely together. It allows people to synthesize their beliefs and create a bond over lyricism and the soul that radiates out of musicians themselves.
Thank you, rock 'n' roll , for testing sound barriers to create insane guitar riffs, rhythmic drum solos, and groovy sounds of all kinds. Listening to Robert Plant hit unbelievable notes or watching Jimi Hendrix play his soul out through his music by wailing on the guitar with his teeth, I am continuously impressed to see so much human emotion turned into historical hits. From psychedelic rock such as Cream, or pop-rock like the Beatles, there is beauty in every form of this music. With unforgettable lyrics that could almost be turned into poetry if all instruments had been taken away, I will always be willing to quote my favorite rockstars, dead or alive. Thank you for showing us what real talent really does consist of.
And lastly, thank you, rock 'n' roll , for letting people express their own individuality. With so many sub-genres of rock, there is no way you can not find a place within this culture of music and find out who you are. Rock 'n' roll l has allowed me to be who I want and only feeling like a complete and total badass while I do so. It has given me opportunity to think about how society as a whole functions and what I can do to change it, and have fun at the same time with my favorite people.
And, don't let me sound biased as I totally and wholly praise this incredible, life-changing, genre of music- it does, indeed, consist of crude language and scandalous behavior, such as the obvious drug use. But, this is what makes it so wild and unpredictable, while also not being as nearly demeaning as much of the music produced today is. So when you're super inspired after reading this and go to throw on some jams, don't be surprised if it's not clean cut. Disclaimer: Do not try what the musicians are necessarily doing.
As Mic Jagger would sing, "I know it's only rock 'n' rolll, but I like it."
