My music choices are much different than they were from when I started high school. These days there is more variety in what music I listen too; many of my favorite songs span different genres from pop to country, to alternative, to folk and everything in between. But back then I only listened to 3 genres of music: pop, country, and oldies( because that genre of music was always playing in my house). But then I met my high school best friend Kim, and she turned my music world around and I definitely owe my tremendous love of music to her.

Before I met Kim, I only really listened to mainstream music. The songs that are always played on the radio. Sure the songs were great and catchy, but after the constant playing of them, I would get bored and eventually annoyed with songs. And I know everyone has felt that way about the radio, and you are shaking your head no then you are lying to yourself. So my music world was definitely lacking in diversity and excitement.

But then later on in my Freshman year, Kim saved my music world. She introduced me to everything I love in my music world now. She would make me the best CDs with the best music that I would have never looked for or listened too before her. She introduced me to different bands from alternative rock to heavy metal. She taught me that there is more music out there than the music played on the radio 24/7. Now I look for music from different genres. I use Spotify radio all the time of either a band or a well-known artist and then other artists come up that I haven't heard of would come up and after one song I would look them up. After I would look them up I would fall in love with their music. I owe this curiosity to Kim, who always made me CDs with artists I didn't know and then made me look them up. She continuously made me fall in love with more and more bands and artists; she made me fall in love with more and more genres; she basically made me fall in love with music time and time again.

Kim also was the one that took me to my first concert, and many after that. After she took me to show after show, I fell in love with going to concerts. I fell in love with hearing live music. She made me fall in love with local Michigan bands and their concerts. She was always the one who would tell me there was a show in town and we should go. She also introduced me to Warped tour; a festival that I absolutely enjoy going too.

I owe my entire music library to her. I owe my love of music to her. I owe my curiosity to search bands and artist that I don't know or have never heard of to her. I owe my love of concerts and festivals to her. And I never truly thanked her for it. So Kimberly, thank you for making me all of those CDs. Thank you for taking me to all of those concerts. Thank you for widening my music interests. Thank you for making me fall in love with music over and over again. But most of all thank you for being you and for being my friend.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
