A Thank You Letter To My Suitemates

"Did you always plan on living in a "Suite Style" dorm?"

HAH

NOT. AT. ALL

If we're being honest here, during college tours that set of words went in one ear and right back out the other. I always told myself I was going to live in a traditional double-style dorm and that was that. But, then came housing selection for Freshman year and all that was left was whatever that "Suite Style" thing was (*shivers*).

Moving in was quite possibly one of the most exciting, yet utterly terrifying experiences I have ever had: Two toilets to how many people? No thank you, please hand me the room change form ASAP. To be honest, I spent the first few weeks in another dorm building with a friend from home and rarely saw or said a word to my suitemates.

As weeks went on I spent more time in my room studying, sleeping or both. But somewhere along the way I realized how awesome the huge cluster of personalities I lived with were. But, little did I know that they would change my life for the better. My suitemates became my best friends, and living with them became like living with a bunch of sisters that I never had. SO, here is a thank you to the amazing ladies of Suite 310.

1. For our shower concerts and late night dance parties:

From Lip Gloss to Breaking Free, dancing on the window ledge will definitely be missed. I don't know what life would be without our Spotify "singing in the showa" playlist blasting from the bathroom and the sound of someone singing "What Do You Mean?" at the top of their lungs.

2. For being my personal stylists and opening your closets to me:

Mi closet es tu closet! Also, thanks for rarely getting mad when you catch me wearing your shirt out 3 weeks after I borrowed it for the first time.

3. For never letting me eat alone in the dining hall.

Even if you just ate 10 mins ago you are always willing to sit there and people watch for another meal. I am always thankful for your company and the daily text of "When's food?".

4. For your morning wake up calls on the weekends:

As much as I seem like I hate it, barging in my room to wake me up to get me pumped for the weekend is one of the best things in the world.

5. For being brutally honest with me:

"No, no, no what were you thinking with that outfit?" , "PLEASE put some lipstick on!" "Calm down please!!" . Whatever it is, I may be mad at you for a solid hour (or a week) but every comment has helped me to be a better me.

6. For being my shoulder to cry on:

Even if we're some of the most awkward people ever when it comes to comforting someone, you guys always know how to make me smile and always listen to me vent about anything from Campion being out of cookies to a bad grade on an exam. You guys are the bomb.com.

7. For guiding me through whatever life throws at me during a night out:

With us, it's legit the blind helping the blind, but I'm still sincerely sorry for almost stumbling into the street 14 times and trying to mack on that really creepy guy that you've been trying to pull me away from all night. Also, thank you for laughing with me (only *at* me sometimes) about stupid stuff I did at a frat last week or my 100 second snap story that was hella unnecessary.

8. For hating the same people I hate:

Mess with one, mess with all. Warning: Shade will be thrown and glares will be given.

9. For encouraging me to be the best I can be:

Thanks for believing in me that I CAN get an A on my exam or that I CAN finish a whole pizza by myself. Being away from home we aren't around our biggest support system, so, we have to compromise and be each other's cheerleaders.

And DAAAAAMN STRAIGHT we are the loudest and most proud ones out there.

10. For being my best friends, my sisters and of course the most amazing suitemates ever:

I don't know what I would do without any of you. Here's to being friends forever, no matter where life takes us.

Love every single one of you eight freaks more than ya know,

Lobes xoxo

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
