I am from Bronx, New York, specifically, the town known as Throggs Neck. In this town, I was able to make friends that have lasted and will continue to last a lifetime. I know many people may say this about their friends, but I feel extremely blessed for the ones I have.
The friends that I am writing about consist of six people. Throggs Neck gave us the opportunity to go to both a grammar school and high school together within a few miles from all of our homes. This means that Throggs Neck gave me my friends at just four years old. We helped each other through our toddler years, teen years, and now our adult years.
Aside from being able to spend seven hours a day for about thirteen years together at school, Throggs Neck gave us the parks, movie theaters, and shopping centers to venture together. These places gave us experiences and memories that strengthened our friendships more than we thought it could’ve ever been strengthened and for that I will forever be grateful to this town.
Furthermore, my hometown has given me comfort. Through the semester where I wanted to transfer from my old college, my hometown was the only place that cheered me up. This was where I ran back to many weekends to lift my spirits and reconnect with the friends that have always been there for me.
As my friends and I all continue our journeys at different colleges today, hundreds of miles apart, we still speak almost every day. We catch up on what is going on today and reminisce on the past things we enjoyed together. Throggs Neck is now the place where we are able to physically reconnect and make more memories together. It is the place where we come together and without it, we might not be able to as much as we do today. Throggs Neck has given me my favorite people and for that, I am forever grateful to my hometown.
