As the title already gives away the basis of this piece, I just want to specify the idea behind it.
There is only a month left of undergrad for me. These past nights, I go to sleep thinking I wouldn’t be where I am now and the woman I have become without certain people and outlets in my life. I don’t think I can ever show and speak enough gratitude as well as I can write them down. So here it goes.
To Hunter College’s media department -- Thank you for a sweet journey of learning a variety of skills. Stepping into my journalism concentration, I thought I was only going to explore that route. But I was able to take many other production courses and found new passions in curating multimedia content. They pushed me to unleash my creativity and gave the freedom to apply my aesthetic on each project. I am walking away with skills that will unbelievably help me with my future work.
To my internships -- I was able to intern at five different media outlets and with a freelance stylist during college. I have gained so many lifetime opportunities from working at each and every one of them. I just want to give my sincere gratitude to my managers and supervisors for believing me and passing down their knowledge in the media industry. Without any of these internships, I wouldn’t have gained the one of a kind experiences that you can’t get from just sitting in a classroom.
To my dearest friends I can count on one hand -- Unfortunately, in four years of studying at Hunter, it was difficult for me to make new friends. I have met some wonderful and talented classmates, but have yet to build any concrete friendships. But to the friends I can consider family who have significantly made impacts on me, especially during this past year where I’ve done the most self-searching, I will always appreciate you. There were so many heart to heart conversations exchanged and I have felt none other than sincerity from them, who truly want the best for me in happiness, health and success, and of course, vice versa. I love you guys.
To creatives I’ve met through events and social media -- The photographers, journalists, and bloggers I honorably became friends with, each one of you inspire me. To see people with the same passion and drive in the field is not only self-motivating, but also acquiring different perspectives and visions. I’m still learning to appreciate everyone’s craft, and take constructive feedback, because you can always learn a thing or two.
To myself -- I have to give myself credit for pushing through these past four years and pursuing a path I have so much love for. I’ve had part time jobs on the side during every single semester, and for the last two years, different internships on top of work and school. During those years, I also thought I was underachieving. I found a little note I published on my Tumblr blog about two years ago, where I set several goals I wanted to complete around the age of 20 to 21. More than happy to say I’ve completed them. More than happy to look at several other major accomplishments.
