When You Give A Girl A Brother

An open thank you letter for being the best brother a girl could ask for.

When You Give A Girl A Brother
Rich Garbutt

The person who said "A dad will always be the most important man in a girl's life" clearly never had a brother. A brother is the man that will never leave a girl's side and will always be her biggest supporter.

Siblings are notorious for having love hate relationships. One minute you will be practicing baseball outside, the next you are chasing each other around the house - fighting over the remote. They may argue a lot, but at the end of the day, the bond between a brother and sister is unbreakable.

When you give a girl a brother, he will practically become her best friend, even though she hated him for a week when he told her Santa Claus was not real.

When you give a girl a brother, he will be way too over protective of you the second you express the slightest bit of interest in a guy. He'll suddenly become a private investigator, have many connections, and be able to find out where he lives, his social security number, and anything bad he has done in the past, in a total of 2.5 seconds.

He'll always answer your midnight call when you can't handle life anymore and are having a mental breakdown because you feel like you took on way more than you can handle and feel as though your life is falling apart. His best advice will be to "go drink some wine and watch Netflix to relax, you need a break."

He'll completely understand late night runs for period ice cream even when it's midnight and 30 degrees outside, without judgement.

He knows you better than you know yourself. When you're faking a smile, and secretly wishing you would die on the inside, and will be there for you through it all,

He will always be there for you through thick or thin. Even when you feel like you've done the worst thing possible and feel like a horrible person, he will still believe in you.

When you give a girl a brother, they'll experience new things together. From first zoo trips, to experiencing new cities, to E.R. trips because he busted your lip open with a baseball. You'll always have a story to tell together.

His best friend will treat you like his own little sister and help your brother hide the body when a guy breaks your heart.

In the end, you may drive me crazy, but I would never trade you for the world.

Thank you for always supporting me through all my endeavors whether it be band, tee-ball, college, or new piercings. The best brother a girl could ask for is the one who supports her endlessly. Thank you for being relatable and understanding even when our parents aren't. Thank you for understanding that I am young and am going to make mistakes because you were once my age too. Even though me being born was a blessing to you (because well, it's me duh) you deserve way more credit than you get. I firmly believe they should create a day for brothers just like they have for mothers and fathers.

Thank you for being the best brother I could ever ask for,

Love, your little sister.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
