As I was getting ready to move to college, I anticipated who my roommates would be. I was very nervous to meet them and find out what they were like and how they would act. The first month or two that I was in the dorms on campus was an experience to say the least. There were things that had happened in that span of time that compelled me to make the decision to move rooms. I felt that it was the necessary thing to do. I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I have made.
Now it was difficult at first because I was starting all over again with new roommates, and I was really nervous. I just wanted them to like me and for us to get along just like I had hoped to with my first roommates. From the second I walked into the new room I felt a change and I knew that this was going to work out. By the end of the night I was so overwhelmed with everything because just meeting them and have them welcome me in with open arms was one of the best feelings.
Our room is very diverse. One of the girls is from Scotland, another is from England, another from Ireland, then three from Louisiana. I have learned a lot in the month and a half living with them. For instance Shannon (from Scotland) talks supper fast so at first it was really hard to understand her, but now I am getting better at it. She is also a really good person to stay up and watch movies with, or One Tree Hill which I love. Now Lauren (from England) was so quiet the first the first time I met her, but we recently went out together and it was so much fun. She can be crazy and has a killer impression of an American accent. Okay, I'm kidding, it was pretty bad and we had a lot of laughs while attempting it. Grace is from Ireland, and she is one of the nicest and down to earth people I have ever met. I was very blessed with all of the roommates I got.
A couple days ago Grace let me try these chip type things from Ireland, and they were very interesting, but that’s the thing I love about having roommates not from America. They get to share their culture with me and I get to share the Louisiana culture with them. This week for Halloween I took them to my house because my parents were cooking gumbo. When we pulled up in my neighborhood they were so amazed to see all of the people dressed up and walking around. We get to my house and we started to get Trick or Treaters and again they were surprised to see that they didn’t say a joke or do a dance. Where they are from in order to get candy you must perform a trick, say a joke or do a dance. They also want to try crawfish and come to my farm so we can go mud riding and ride four wheelers. Not everyone is as lucky as me to have the best roommates like I do. And I want to thank them so much for being so awesome.
