Thank You, Eric Church

I have an unwavering love for Church music.

Thank You, Eric Church
Country Home

In the Leamon household, we worship God, the Denver Broncos, and the one and only, Eric Church.

I can not tell you the exact moment I fell in love with Eric Church's music. But I can tell you that a lot of my high school memories happened when his music was playing. Some of these memories are: driving down a back road with my dad and brother listening to "Springsteen," belting out "Smoke a Little Smoke," in my aunt's SUV packed full of some of my favorite people, and taking the long way home after one of the hardest days this year with my dad, and driving around a country block just to hear "I Love Your Love the Most."

I have often found that it is hard to find mutual things that interest my dad, my brother and me. But we all share the same love for Eric Church and his captivating music. In a way, Eric Church has helped to build a bond between me and two of the most important guys in my life, and I am so thankful for that. I love walking around the house and hearing my dad playing Church songs on the guitar because I can't hep but obnoxiously belt out the words along with him. I love when the three of us are riding home from somewhere and dad takes the long way home just so we can listen to the Caught in the Act: Live album. (Dad is a firm believer that the live version is always better.)

So now here is a list of my top 5 favorite Eric Church songs, and what they mean to me.

5. How Bout You

Every time I hear this song, I remember where I came from. I get a sense of pride in my hometown, and the fact that I grew up in such a simple small town. It reminds me of how blessed I am to have been raised with great values and manners. I love this song because it will always remind me to stay humble, and always remember my roots.

4. I Love Your Love the Most

This is one of my favorite love songs. There isn't anything I find much sweeter than a man telling you he loves you more than all of his other favorite things in life. It has a sweet melody and the lyrics are so pretty. "Hell yes, I love my dog, and Jack D in my coke, but honey... I love your love the most."

3. Mr. Misunderstood

I love this song because it reminds me so much of my dad and brother and it makes my heart so happy.

2. Springsteen

This song just makes me think of every good memory I've ever had. It reminds me of the way it felt to be in love in high school. It reminds me of sitting in the car in the driveway late at night with my boyfriend when I was supposed to be in the house hours before (sorry mom and dad), just listening to music and enjoying his company. It reminds me of afternoon fishing trips with my family, and wasting more gas and time than we ever did fishing. But time wasted having fun isn't really time wasted, is it?

1. Sinners Like Me

This song. Sometimes I just listen to it on repeat. It is my favorite song, even if I do cry almost every time I hear it. It makes me think of the extraordinary people in my family and how lucky I am to have loved the ones we've lost. It also reminds me that one day I will get to stand in that long line, and be able to talk to those loved ones again.

I could not be more proud to come from a long line of sinners like me.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
