To say that I am lucky is an understatement when it comes to talking about the father that I was blessed with. From being my personal coach to one of my biggest supporters to the one who has taught me so many life lessons, this is a thank you letter to my incredible father, the best man in my life.
Dear Dad,
First of all, thank you being in my life and being the definition of the word "father."
One thing that I never forget is that not everyone gets a real father in their life. I know too many people whose father ran away from the responsibility of a child, but that was never you. You stuck around, you attacked every challenge that came your way, and you taught yourself how to be the best father out there; although I believe that all comes naturally to you.
Thank you always being there to help me out.
Whether you were helping me learn a new skill in sports or helping me use my creativity for a project, you have always been there to help me out. As I continue to grow up and discover the meaning of living on my own, you are, without a doubt, there for me through every step of the way. Thank you for helping me make decisions, for giving me the advice that I need, and for being there for me at all times.
Thank you for teaching me important life lessons.
One of the most important things that I have ever learned was from you and that thing was not taking everything so seriously. This has been a lesson that has changed my whole outlook on life. Instead of getting down on myself when life throws me curveballs, you have taught me that laughing things off really does help and that things truly do always work themselves out.
For teaching me to be myself.
There's no doubt about the fact that you are a truly unique, (maybe "strange" is a better word for it) but that is one of the many things that I love about you! You have taught me the important fact that being yourself leads to the people who are meant to be in your life. Because of you, I am forever comfortable with the person that I am and have learned to never try and change for anyone. I am more than enough the way that I am. You have taught me to be confident, to make people laugh, and to do things without fear of judgment from others.
For teaching me what to look for in a man.
Because of the love that you have in your heart about one woman, you have taught me that there is a man out there who will be completely all about me. You have taught me that the man I am meant to be with will never leave me feeling like I need to compare myself to anyone else and that I will always feel like the only woman in the world. On top of that, you have taught me the meaning of true respect and that is something that I will always look for in a person. You have taught me that I deserve a man who is honest, loyal, and never fails to make me laugh.
For teaching me the true meaning of strength.
You have been through things that a person should never really have to go through, but you still keep your head up. Above everything, this might be the one thing that I cherish most about you. You have taught me what it means to be strong. Being strong doesn't mean not being weak, but being weak and growing strong from those weak points. It means picking yourself up after an extremely hard time in life, and learning lessons from that specific rut. You are one of the strongest people I know and I cannot thank you enough for teaching me that trait.
I could never thank you enough for all that you have taught and given me. You are one in a billion and I am glad that you are the father I was given. I love you!
Love,
Your Thankful Child
