What can I say about (one) of my best male friends? This isn’t one of those, “We met when we were young and then we were best friends forever”. We met in high school. I was a junior and he was a freshman. I don’t know what it was, but he gave me this weird vibe the first time I met him. We were cast in our school’s rendition of Damn Yankees and he got a bigger part than I did. I was a little jealous considering I thought I could sing very well and I wasn’t too bad of an actor considering I have never been on stage before. For those of you that may not know, the first thing you do after casting the show is a read through. You literally sit there with the cast and read through all of the lines, just without acting them out. Before we got started I hear from a couple of seats down, “Hey, nice shirt.” I was wearing a Red Hot Chili peppers shirt. I said, “Thanks. I’m Justin.” “Conor” he replied and it was all downhill from there. Yes, that was a joke for those of you that can’t tell.
We spent a lot of time together and became very good friends. Best friends in fact. You can never have just one best friend. We each have other best friends it’s not like it’s against the rules. Through thick and thin we’ve made it through a lot together. When I went off to college that was tough for us. He’s an only child and I never had a brother, he was the closest thing I had to a brother. We had an emotional, ‘So long for now’ before I left for school the first time. It was rough, but we made it through.
We text and occasionally Skype to keep up on all of the happenings in both my school and his. He keeps me up to date on what’s happening in Hyde Park, especially the people I know just to check in.
