A Letter To My College Friends

I wanted to write and say thank you for everything. Thank you for putting up with my breakdowns, my outlandish ideas, and my crazy antics. Thank you for jamming out to the High School Musical soundtrack and for always going on Sonic happy hour runs with me. Thank you for laughing with me until we cried, and for always telling me when I was being dumb.

When I moved into my little dorm room, I didn’t know anyone. I was alone in a big campus and I was scared. The day I met each of you, my life changed. I wasn’t scared anymore. My homesickness vanished and I was excited to start my college life with you three. My life went from early bedtimes to staying out late watching chick flicks and talking about all the weird things that happened that day.

Freshman year was hard in more ways than one, and you all have watched me change over the past year and have supported me through it all. You were there for every crisis I had, and you helped me solve my many problems (because most of my problems could be solved with a trip to a coffee shop). Please know that your support and love is greatly appreciated. I do not give each of you enough credit, but I honestly would not be the same without you encouraging me.

Here’s to the sleepless nights when we would stay up late planning our weddings on Pinterest, even though none of us were in relationships. Here’s to the spontaneous road trips and weekend getaways to someone’s hometown just so that we could get a home-cooked meal. Here’s to the spa nights we had and all of the facials we tried. Here’s to all of the junk food we ate and all of the times we decided that we should start working out. I cannot wait to come back in August and pick back up where we left off.

My freshman year would not have been the same without y'all. You guys are my rock, my support system, my worship partners, and my shoulders to cry on. I know that no matter what life or mean professors throw my way, you three will be there to celebrate with me or to comfort me. I want you to know that I will always be there for each of you in any endeavor you decide to pursue. No matter what happens to any of us, just know that a latte and Jesus can cure almost anything.

As we go our separate ways for the summer I want to wish you all the best. I’m going to miss our late night Whataburger runs and our afternoons spent hammocking and catching up on celebrity gossip. Keep being the beautiful girls that you are. Each of you means so much to me and I cannot wait to see you again. Never stop sending ugly Snapchats because I’m going to miss seeing each of your pretty faces. I am always just a phone call away and can be to your rescue in just a few hours. Good luck on your summer classes, wisdom teeth removal (please send videos), and summer jobs. I love you all!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
