A Thank You To My Roomie

Name a more iconic duo, I'll wait...

A Thank You To My Roomie
Sierra Abbott

Let's be honest, college is hard. College is even harder to go through alone, so it is imperative that you find a great group of people to surround yourself with. My sophomore year is coming to an end, but I would never have made it through without my roomie. We met freshman year, and then we ended up living in our sorority house together this year. I will forever be thankful for the memories we have made this year.

Thank you for watching endless hours of Netflix with me.

I did not know it was possible for someone to love binge watching Netflix shows as much as me, but I finally found you. Whether that be rewatching the classic "Gossip Girl" or watching all 13 episodes of "13 Reasons Why" in one day, I know I can always count on you.

Thank you for karaoke in the car.

I do not think it is possible to get in the car without blasting our favorite songs and singing along. The cars driving next to us probably think we are crazy, but oh well.

Thank you for not judging my sleeping habits.

Sometimes you just want to sleep until two in the afternoon, but that is not always an acceptable behavior. Luckily, I finally met someone that could outsleep me (four in the afternoon, really?).

Thank you for always saying yes to the pool even when we should be at the library.

Yes, we need to study, but I think that the pool is more important when the UV rays are at 8. Getting some sun always beats the library (and even class on some occasions, oops).

Thank you for never saying no to a late night food run.

You do not feel as bad about yourself if you go to Whataburger at 1 a.m. if you have someone to go with you.

Thank you for sharing your closet.

The weekly struggle of deciding what to wear for a night out would be a lot worse if you did not graciously let me look through your closet and pick out an outfit to wear.

Thank you for helping me write every text I send to a boy.

What should I say? Should I even reply? What would you do if you were me? I do not think I could text anyone without your help.

Thank you for listening to my daily rants.

College is hard and boys suck. You are there for me to listen to it all. Thanks for always having an open ear even if I am being dramatic.

Thank you for the endless laughter.

I mean, honestly, is there ever a time that we are not laughing when we are together? There is always something crazy to laugh about when we are together.

Thank you for putting up with me.

I know I can be a lot to handle, but you somehow have put up with me for a whole school year now.

Thank you for not judging me for my weird habits.

I might be a grandma and go to bed around nine at night, I might hate foods that you love, yet somehow we still get along just fine.

Thank you for always being my date to sorority events.

Who needs boyfriends when you have your roomie? I mean we are a better duo anyways, so it's fine.

Thank you for always being real with me.

When I am unsure of something, if I need advice, or if I just need someone to be straight up with me, I can always count on you to be real.

Thank you for being the best roomie I could ask for.

You have become one of my very best friends and I am so thankful for that. I am not sure how I will ever live without you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
