What is a small town? White picket fences, mom and pop restaurants passed down through generations, a familiar face around every corner? No -- it's so much more than that. A small town community is a mentor built off of a foundation created by generosity. It creates who you are and what you aspire to be without you taking the time to comprehend and appreciate everything it has accomplished for you.
Thank you for the people of my community.
Yes please and no thank you have been stressed since I could talk. Manners are important and how I treat others are even more important. Because of my small town, I know how to treat others with proper respect, as well as put others needs before my own even in strenuous situations. The people of my community have taught me these things and I am honored to represent them in my daily life.
Thank you for giving me absolutely nothing to do on the weekends.
I complained about this one a lot growing up, but looking back, it's one of the things I am most thankful for. Groaning about having no fun place to meet up allowed me to create my own plans. It enlightened me on the wonders of personal connections and being in the presence of people rather than talking behind a phone screen. Without this skill, I would not have some of the blessings I call friendships today.
Thank you for my community size support system.
When tragedy strikes there is always a shoulder to cry on. When I fall there is a hand to pull me off the ground and brush me off. When a local sports team takes on a state challenge and gains a victory, everyone celebrates. A small town teaches you that no matter the outcome you are not a lone and to support everyone along the way.
Thank you for my supporting my faith.
It's no secret that small towns tend to focus on the church every Sunday whether you believe in God or not. I am thankful for the community church families provided by the people. It is comforting to know that in grieving times we can hold hands and reach out to our Father in unison. Not only do times have to be difficult they can be beautiful and celebrated in the name of God.
Thank you for never giving up on me.
No matter what path I choose in life, there is a whole mob of supporting, genuine, and familiar faces to guide me. It is comforting to take on the roller coaster of life with people to share my ups and downs with. Whether I feel depressed or absolutely thrilled I know I am never one thing -- alone. Thank you small town for the memories, the personality, but most importantly the people.
