A Thank You Letter To My Teachers From The Past

To all of my teachers from the past:

Between elementary school, middle school, high school and dance class, you have all taught me so much. And I thank you for that. I don't remember actually ever taking the few seconds to thank you for all you have done for me. You have taught me different skills and acts of character that have molded me into the person I am today.

Thank you for spending the extra time with me when I was struggling with reading back in elementary school. Your patience and kind gestures are two character traits I truly appreciate now. Looking back at this time, you didn't have to spend early mornings or late afternoons with me working on the different reading prompt every week. But you did anyway. And that is something I truly admire up to this day.

To Mrs. Arps and my third grade class, thank you for showing me my love for theater. "Character Matters" was the play/musical that broke me out of my shell and showed me the path to something I truly love and appreciate.

To Señorita Mauricio, thank you preparing me for college—the workload and the discipline you presented in Spanish 3 and Spanish 4 honors has definitely prepared me for the real (college) world.

B, thank you for being a mother figure who always had my best interest in mind through high school. I love you and your love for music too much.

Thank you, to all my teachers, for keeping in touch and seeing how I am doing. Even after so many years, it is so nice to hear from teachers back in elementary school when I was 10, 13, 16 and 18 years old at this point in my life.

Mrs. Zahn, thank you for being so sweet, so kind, and so loving back in the 2003-2004 school year. First grade was one of my favorite school years. In fact, I am still friends with some of my first grade friends to this day. And when I came back to complete my student teaching in March 2015, I felt that same love. And I am so happy your students get to feel that same love every school year.

To all of my dance instructors, thank you for teaching me everything I now know about dedication, teamwork and dance as an art form. Now being a dance instructor myself, I understand why you love what you do. I find that there is something so special about seeing improvement in my students. And seeing them wanting to improve and giving 110 percent is so heartwarming to see as their teacher.

There is something so special about those who educate. You, the teachers, deserve so much credit. You prepare so many of us for the real world. And without you, there would be no one to properly show us everything we know today.

So, thank you!

Love,

A former student who appreciates you all so much

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
