A Thank You Letter To Sigma Phi Epsilon

A Thank You Letter To Sigma Phi Epsilon

Go ahead, picture it. Freshman year syllabus week, spending countless hours with your new friends searching for the perfect outfit, just to have jungle juice spilt all over your new white shirt by the end of the night (lesson learned). You awkwardly turn right down a long drive way and then there it is… the sound of music faintly coming from “the backhouse,” a line to get in worse than Chick-Fil-A and as you finally get inside, you find out that true love can actually be found in college…well, a frat house.

Time to fast forward. You’re basically “one of the guys.” By now you walk-in, walk straight to the front of the line to instantly get handed a cup, which in fact comes with glares from the girls you just pushed out of the way to get there (you’re welcome).

Honestly, nothing beats walking into the back house and getting bombarded with hugs from all your favorite fraternity guys. The guys are exactly what you thought they would be like, kind of like if you were to pour a $300 bottle of Moscato wine into a red solo cup. They may be party animals on the weekends and heck, sometimes even on a Wednesday night, but I’ve never met smarter, more genuine guys in my life.

The late night shenanigans that happen inside the fraternity house are memories that I’ll never forget. Like nerf wars, the perfect “yardy”, and watching guys throw beer in round-up…everywhere. Although they are a handful to take care of, I wouldn’t trade their recklessness for anything.

So, to Sigma Phi Epsilon,

Thank you for showing me what true friendship really is—being the place I feel most comfortable in. When I find myself in your house (basically every day of my life) I know I’m safe. I know all the brothers would psychically fight anyone who tried to mess with me. I know who lives in every room and where to go if I ever needed them.

Thank you for being the house that holds all of my bad decisions, but also being the people to remind me I’m better than that. I know, we’re talking about fraternity guys with “bad choices” as their middle names, but when I make mine, someone is there to remind me the famous words of Troy Hunter - it will be alright in the ‘morning.

Thank you for letting me celebrate every special occasion of mine at the fraternity. From birthdays to formals-- you have all been there every step of the way. Thank you for dealing with my happy, sad, crying (or a combination of all) drunk self.

Thank you for letting us come over basically whenever we want to do whatever we want. Thank you for being the safe zone where we know we can act ridiculous and it be okay because you will be right there with us.

Thank you for teaching me how to play hockey, even though I’m the worlds worst at it. Most of all, thank you for being the best friends a girl could ask for. Each and every one of you hold a special place in my heart that I will forever be thankful for. I appreciate you all more than you think. Also, a big thank you for loving me even when I go all basic sorority girl and become a monster.

College would honestly suck without you guys.

Love,

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
