Dear Mom, Dad, and Sister,
Thank you for being so supportive and so brave as we entered this stage of my life, and continue to grow in this journey. Being four states away, and incredibly busy and stressed can really bite, so I apologize for not always answering your texts right away, or call you every night. Know that even as I run around trying to get everything done, you are still in my mind.
A full time student taking the maximum amount of credit hours; dance team participant working her butt off to achieve her goals; an RA; a blogger; an editor and deliverer for the school newspaper; a broadcaster, accomplishing seven hours of homework every night; and now in a relationship, I think it's safe to say I am on overload with everything I have to do. But I wouldn't have been able to do any of this if it wasn't for you. Mom and Dad watching you run around doing work, taking care of us, the house, and our zoo of pets has taught me to take on so many tasks, prioritize them and handle stress. Sis, you helped me see that I can still get on the Deans List in handling these tasks and how to stay invested in school while being an athlete. Thank you so much.
It's been hard accomplishing all these things without you here. Performing at halftime games and competitions, I wish you were in the stands cheering me on. I wish I could come back to my dorm to see one of you waiting for me to ask me, "How was your day?" Yet even though I know you can't be here physically, I know you're here spiritually.
Thank you for teaching me how to be frugal! Even though I have two jobs, it seems that my paychecks go to books, uniforms, or groceries. Growing up, we weren't the richest family on the block. You taught me how to find bargains, the biggest bang for my buck, and how to save money. It has definitely helped in the long run.
Again thank you for your support. I know many parents would not ever allow their child to apply to an out of state school, or would persuade them to not go to one. Every time I leave home it's a tear fest, and I know I'm not two to eight hours away for you to visit me on the weekends. Even if I was a state next door it would be a little easier, but I guess that's not what God has planned for me. Thank you for supporting my passion. I love to write; I love being a journalism major. As my mind wanders in if I want to pursue media, news writing, commentating, and as I tell you all about it and my crazy ideas of what I want to be when I grow up, instead of putting me down and telling me it's not realistic, you simply say "Yeah! That would be cool." And I can tell you're smiling through the phone. Thank you for supporting my love for dance for so long, and know that every time I perform, I pour my heart into it all because you taught me that's the way to do it.
You say I'm brave for attending school four states away from home, but I get my strength and bravery from you guys. I love you all so much, and I'll see you in December.
Love,
Your college student daughter.
