A Thank You Letter To My Family

Mom and Dad,

  • Thank you for believing in me when I couldn’t or when I felt as if the world was against me.
  • Thank you for letting me crawl into your bed early in the morning to snuggle or when I had a bad dream or leg pains. Thanks for letting me still do this at age 20.
  • Thank you for the countless laughs we’ve had together that always turned into happy tears.
  • Thank you for all of the crazy adventures we’ve embarked on, whether it be the five of us in Tawas or the three of us to GR this summer.
  • Thank you for always being my guiding light as I venture into this world.
  • Thank you for providing me with a college education.
  • Thank you for always singing Christmas music with me at the top of our lungs throughout the month of December.
  • Thank you for always knowing what to say.
  • Thank you for teaching us manners.
  • Thank you for picking me up when I’m down, dusting me off, and helping me get on my feet.
  • Thank you for pushing me to become a stronger individual.
  • Thank you for teaching me that I would never need a boy to complete me.
  • Thank you for never missing one of my sporting events or school functions.
  • Thank you for always loving my homemade gifts, no matter how crappy they were.
  • Thank you for showing me that Costco counts as a date.
  • Thank you for teaching me right and wrong.
  • Thank you for spontaneously sending me letters, notes, and cards to cheer me up or leaving me little surprises when I least suspected them.
  • Thank you for helping me discover my worth and teaching me to never settle for anything.
  • Thank you for introducing God into my life and bringing us all to church every Sunday.
  • Thank you for dropping everything to help out either Brennen, Hannah, or I.
  • Thank you for always playing board games with me, and letting me win when I was little.
  • Thank you for not spoiling me with materialist objects constantly, but for spoiling me with love and affection.
  • Thank you for dancing around the kitchen with me.
  • Thank you for supporting me through everything I do.
  • Thank you for picking up the phone at any time of the day or night and being there the second I need you with open arms.
  • Thank you for giving your children a wonderful life, and teaching us to live it to our fullest abilities. I could never thank you enough for giving us the world. I will never be able to repay you both for everything. I love you: you are my sun, my moon, and all of my stars.
  • Dad- Thank you for being my rock, my No. 1 guy. Thank you for always being my movie buddy, the numerous trips to "the library," and teaching me every day how to become a better person. I will always cherish our road trip together to the East Coast a couple summers back. You’re my best friend and my love for you is endless.
  • Mom- Thank you for always being my superhero, my best friend. Thank you for our fun shopping trips to our favorite spot, talking on the phone for hours, texting me pictures of Finn, and singing the Spongebob Squarepants theme song with me. You are always my go-to person when bad days float my way and you somehow always know how to make me laugh. I would be lucky to be even just half the person you are. I love you more.

My Brother and Sister

  • Thank you for always protecting your baby sis.
  • Thank you for all of your college tips and tricks that has helped me survive the last three years.
  • Thank you for showing me how to work hard to get what I want in life.
  • Thank you for always being my role models in life.
  • Thank you for all of our sleepovers as kids in Brennen’s room with Duke.
  • Thank you for picking me up when I’m down and taking me to the comic book store (Brennen), or shopping (Hannah) to cheer me up.
  • Thank you for telling me to suck it up.
  • Thank you for always having my back with no questions asked.
  • Thank you for all of the pranks we use to pull on everyone (even each other).
  • Thank you for letting me brag about everything you’ve accomplished, even though it can be excessive or annoying. You two just make me so proud.
  • Thank you for never leaving me behind.
  • Thank you for telling me when I’m wrong, and unwillingly telling me when I’m right.
  • Thank you for all of our crazy adventures, ideas, and fights growing up.
  • Thank you for all of the secrets you’ve kept.
  • Thank you for always being a phone call away.
  • Thank you for being you.
  • Hannah- Thank you for being my pickle, my best friend, my favorite sister. You’ve taught me how to dress (we’re still working on that), how to live my life to fullest with no regrets, and countless other lessons. Thank you for making all of those cooking videos or George W. Bush videos when we were little, for making me laugh when all I want to do is cry, for being my toughest critic, and for all of the amazing Christmases and family trips I know you put so much planning into. I am so proud to be your little sister. I love you Philip.
  • Brennen- Thank you for always being my fellow comic book nerd, my favorite big brother, my best friend. Thank you for always being kind and gentle, for driving me around and letting me pick the music, for being there when I need a hug, for never judging and for loving me like you do. You’re the smartest person I have ever met and you astound me with your endless achievements. You make us all so proud.

I will never be able to find the words to describe how much you all mean to me or how deep my love is. Thank you four for being my superheroes, my best friends—my family. Thank you Mom, Dad, Hannah, and Brennen for being my favorite part in this crazy life. Love you to the moon and back!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
