A Thank You To My Fellow Camp Counselors

Dear Camp Greystone Staff of 2015,

What can I say? Y'all were some of the kindest, most inviting people I have ever met or worked with in my entire life. I came in during the last session of the summer, for only two weeks, and you let me become one of your own in almost no time. I cannot thank y'all enough for that. FINISH

Camp Greystone has always been a home for me, but as we all really know, a home isn't just a place, it's the people you're surrounded by. By being so welcoming to me when y'all were tired and already nine weeks into the summer, I realized that this place will always be home to me. As a lifetime camper, I knew camp would always be home to me, but I never knew that the reason camp would be home would be because of you guys. There is no one in the world I would rather spend my summers with than y'all.

As I write this article, we're on our 2015 Staff Winter Retreat, and seeing (almost) everyone again for the first time since August has been the best possible way to ring in the New Year. Arriving at camp, we were greeted with each other's warm smiles and unconditional love, just like we were during the summer. I forgot just how easy it was to set my phone on a table, and catch up with some of my closest friends, forgetting I even needed my phone. That is what makes y'all the absolute best group of people to be surrounded by.

Reminiscing about memories and campers from this past summer has been so much fun. Nothing brings a group of people closer than an 11-week-long shared experience (like this past summer). We were there for each other through it all, every hilarious camper line, every camper plagued by homesickness, and all the successes and triumphs that come with our amazing jobs.

Being camp counselors has taught us skills we will have for the rest of our lives, that will only make us better. We know how to diffuse tough situations, how to work with a big group of strangers, and just how quickly you can form a bond with someone. There is absolutely no better job in the world, and I can honestly say that I have the absolute best coworkers in the world.

Sometimes, our job is tough, but we have the best support system anyone could ever ask for: each other. Thank you for always having my back, and always being the most supportive and loving group of people I have ever had the pleasure of being a part of. Y'all rock.

"Love ya mean it"

~Lydia

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Superman and Batman have nothing on being invisible with their superhero abilities. Here are some things that you could do while being invisible, because being invisible can benefit your social life too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
