The most magical days of my lives--concerts. I’ve had the good fortune of attending many concerts in my 18 years, and they have been the best days of my life. It is almost impossible to describe the feeling that takes over you when you’re surrounded by people all brought together for one purpose, the music. Finally seeing that band you’ve loved for years, the person whose song just makes you cry every time, or the group that when you listen to their music you can’t help but just dance around. They fill you with all the joy you can imagine. The feeling of belonging and for that hour and a half you are not alone. Nothing else going on in your life matters at that moment. Whenever I am at a concert I can be nothing but totally present and completely in the moment.
I thank you on the behalf of my best friend and I for the joy you have brought into our lives. Honestly, a concert really isn’t a concert unless there is confetti streaming down during that one song where everyone is screaming at the top of their lungs, and then proceeding to collect as much of it as possible and stuff it into bags to bring home and save forever. Yes, I am always that crazy eyed person trying to grab as much confetti as possible and then run away as fast as possible. My best friend and I have mastered the grab and go scooping of concert confetti technique. There’s nothing so great as picking up that post concert Wawa and then sitting down in your new concert tshirt to admire your precious confetti.
Looking on my desk and seeing my concert confetti mason jar, instantly fills me with all the emotions from all the concerts. I can hear the music. I can remember the crazy dance moves my best friend and I were doing. I watch the videos and can hear my tone deaf singing voice so loud it essentially ruins the video, but whenever I re-watch these videos I can only smile because I remember how insanely blissful and present I was in that moment. Then I remind myself for next time, “Megan, you’re at their concert. They’re not here to listen to you.”
Concert confetti is my way to relive the greatest times of my life with some of the greatest people I know. I would give almost anything to relive those moments, but instead I look at my confetti jar, re-watch my videos, and text my best friend. Thank you concert confetti for the memories. Thank you to every artist or band that decides, “hell yeah we’re having confetti during the show” because without it concerts just wouldn’t be the same.
