With the semester off to a very slow start, it's everyone's favorite time of the semester: Syllabus Week! If you're a freshman, you're probably still focusing on the little things such as how many days you can miss class before your grade is deducted. If you're an upperclassman, you're probably getting a jumpstart on determining what grades you need on different assignments to pull at least a C in the class in the event you totally bomb the final.
As a seasoned student, I have come to find it doesn't really matter what the professors say during syllabus week. Regardless of the words coming out of their mouths, if you have a question two months down the road, they are most likely going to tell you the answer is in the syllabus. The great thing about the thick, stapled packet is you never need to stress about remembering the due date of an assignment, how your grade will be calculated, the office hours your professor has set aside, or what you'll be doing on a certain day in the class.
As you push through syllabus week, just remind yourself finals week is only 15 weeks away. You can get there and as long as you follow the syllabus, you can probably swing at least a B! Progress is progress and professors could just expect you to know everything without that packet of paper but instead they provide some hope by giving it to you. If you're ever questioning your life, your grade, or your sanity, just check the syllabus. It holds all of the answers.
