Texts From Best Friends

They're the best.

Texts From Best Friends
Megan Romero

As the name suggests, best friends are the absolute best. "Cadet Kelly" also taught us that we can have more than one and I definitely do. Our relationships are not at all structured nor are there many boundaries, particularly with our texts. There are no time limits or weirdness limits (then again, there are none of those limits in person either). Another compulsion we have is that many of us have a very dry sense of humor that we're competitive with, so group chats are quite the mess but, damn, can they be funny. Every time I think they're hilarious, I always think that maybe it's just us that laugh at the stupidest things--which is also the case--but, sometimes, I swear that all of us at a table could write a killer comedy show. Another thing with having best friends--and I mean the real ones, not the ones you're low-key afraid to talk to--is there is no such thing as annoyance. Well, there is, but you just don't care if you're being annoying because they probably deserve it anyway--especially if you asked them a question and they haven't responded in 10 minutes when they were responding immediately before (honestly, what the hell is that?).

By any means, best friends are the best and worst things to happen to my phone because I'm one of those people that tells them almost everything and vice-versa. We know what's going on, we know how to talk to each other, and we know how to understand each other. Obviously, best friends have that whole thick-and-thin thing, so not every time we text is filled with lighthearted humor, but that's what I'm sharing with you, because everyone has friends like these and my friends and I are hilarious. Also, yeah, some of these are from my parents. So what?

In prepping for this article I had to dig through so many screenshots and relive many things (because lord knows all the drama is in the screenshots). I had a great time though, and I got to remind some of my friends how dumb they could be and how funny we could all be. Also, I'm thinking I should make one of these but from parents because I found a few gold ones, too. Maybe it is just me with friends like these, but I seriously doubt it because once you get this close to certain people, filters turn into elusive concepts --unless, of course, you're being shady with them. So here they are and I'd obviously like to thank my best friends for letting me use these and for everything else.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
