What We Need To Realize From The Paris Attacks

There have been quite a few tweets thrown around my dashboard about the devastating terrorist attacks in Paris this past Friday where over 100 innocent concert goers lost their lives. There have also been quite a few racist remarks. I hope to inform everyone reading this article that terrorism has no religion. Violence is not caused by someone's religion, it is caused by their actions. You cannot assume that just because someone is "brown" or believes in a different faith than you, that they're a terrorist. This is racial profiling.

To date, ISIS have killed far more Muslims than any other religious group. It’s not Islam vs. Christianity, nor is it ISIS vs. Christians — it’s ISIS vs. the rest of the world. The media’s portrayal of ISIS is simply manipulative propaganda to convince the masses into harboring prejudice against Islam/Muslims and thus supporting US imperialism. They’ve duped the entire West into believing the Christian persecution is the primary, or even most significant endeavor of ISIS.

ISIS wants you to fear all of Islam. ISIS does these awful things so you will place blame on every Muslim you see, when in reality, the people you see every day are refugees and they are just as afraid as we are.

The thing that really gets me is the fact that people can differentiate between Christians and the KKK, or Christians and the Westboro Baptist Church, but some cannot tell the difference between a Muslim and a member of ISIS. How is that fair? Not all Caucasian males shoot up schools, not all Hispanics are in gangs, and not all Muslims are a part of ISIS. To change this awful portrayal of the world, we must change our mindsets. We must stop putting people into categories purely for the fact that they have a certain skin color, or believe in a certain faith.

Below is the video of the France vs. Germany soccer game where you can hear a loud explosion in the background. As all the players looked at each other in confusion, the broadcasters mistook the explosion for fireworks. However, it was from a suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest that was supposed to be set off inside the Stade de France, killing all of the players, fans and French President Francois Hollande. The bomb never made it inside the stadium because courageous security guard (who asked for only his first name to be sourced online) Zouheir, detected the vest and turned him away, saving thousands of lives.

Zouheir is a Muslim.

There are people out there that do ugly things. It feels sometimes that we can't go to school, work, a sporting event, a movie theater, or a concert without fearing for our safety and that is absolutely horrifying. These people are evil, they are violent but please keep in mind that these extremists do not represent the masses. Do not let a few bad apples give you a negative stigma on everyone of a certain race or everyone who believes in a certain faith.

Please keep in mind that just because I am pointing out that Muslims are not equivalent to ISIS, that does not mean I am ignoring the deaths of civilians. In times like this, we must stick together. We must not let them win.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
