It is finally here … The moment we have waited for all of our lives: the first day of college.
What an exciting time in our lives this next chapter will be! A new area, new friends, new classes, and so many things to get involved in. We are bound to meet future coworkers, best friends, future spouses and more here at Tech in the next four years.
Not only will we take part in new adventures and meet new people, we will also begin to learn and educate ourselves about the career we are passionate about pursuing.
So to my fellow classmates, I want to encourage you along with myself …
-Join the clubs you are interested in. Many of us came from small towns with few ways to get involved with our interests. This is a chance for us to do what we love and meet others who have similar interests. Whether it is a christian ministry organization or the speech and debate team, find something that you love and get involved with it!
-Make new friends. I am the first to say that I know it can be awkward or uncomfortable to step out of your comfort zone and talk to people you don’t know. But our college experience will be a thousand times better with friends to make memories with. Whether it is friends from orientation, your biology classmate, or someone you meet in a club you join, be open to meeting new people anywhere and everywhere you go!
-And lastly, remember your passion and the reason you chose the career you’re pursuing here at Tech. We all have dreams and goals we would like to achieve in life. This is the time for us to learn as much as we can as well as gaining as much experience in our chosen fields as possible. I want to encourage my fellow classmates to work hard, keep a clear vision of your goals, and never give up when the work gets difficult.
We have a clean slate starting new at college and we should make the best of it.
So from your fellow TTU freshman, good luck to each of you on your journeys at Tech! Let’s make these next four years the best yet!
