I know you don't need to be told this, but college is stressful. And if your're anything like me any helpful inside information is always vital. So in case you're worrying about your first years at college here are some tips to ensure your first year at college goes smoothly.
1.) You may know everything about the class and still fail the tests.
Utilize your resources such as: tutors, textbooks, and your classmates. There is no such thing as "knowing everything" new information can always be useful.
2.) Partying is fun, but it does get old.
To incoming freshman, partying is a fun new experience but after second semester rolls in you might realize that your BAC is higher than your GPA.
3.) Big meal plans are never a good idea.
The freshman fifteen is a very real thing, and being forced to limit how much you eat a day can help you avoid gaining those pounds.
4.) Always be on the lookout for free money
Scholarships aren’t limited to just your senior year of high school. Scholarships are always available at any time, you just have to know where to look.
5.) Make sure to always wash your hands.
Sickness spreads, rapidly. Living in a building with 100+ students takes its toll and allows germs to spread everywhere. Stock up on cold medicine!
6.) Get involved.
Joining clubs is a great way to meet new friends outside of just your dorm hall and classes.
7.) Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
No one will hold your hand through it all, but there are many people that can guide you to the right path in your college career.
8.) Don’t rush to buy your textbooks.
You’ll find out what books you need on the first day. Once you have your book list, try looking for better deals outside of the university’s book store.
9.) Your roommate doesn’t have to be your best friend.
Respect each other’s space and make sure to talk about any issues. Taking the risk of rooming with someone you don’t know is better than risking the relationship with your best friend.
10.) College may not be for everyone.
Don’t feel obligated to go through the motions of college if it’s not for you. The experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity, but if you can’t handle your responsibilities as a student, no need to waste your money.
