“So no one told you life was gonna be this way…”
Actually, everyone’s favorite sitcom, "Friends," did! Whether it’s your first time watching an episode, or your 12th, you’re left with a stomachache from laughing so hard, teary eyes from crying, a life lesson, or oftentimes, all of the above! After 10 seasons, "Friends" has definitely taught us a lot about life and ourselves:
1. Find a Career You Love
Just as Ross was undeniably passionate about paleontology, or Monica loved cooking, or Joey took great pride in his acting part of Dr. Drake Ramoray, we should all thrive to find a career we love so much that it doesn’t ever feel like work.
2. How Much Money You Have Doesn't Define You as a Person
It doesn’t matter if you play songs at a local café without barely any tips like Phoebe. Heck, it doesn’t even matter if you landed a leading role in a movie and aren’t getting paid for it like Joey. Phoebe explained it best when she said, “You can’t define yourself in terms of money. It’s about values and morals and your ability to give and receive love.”
3. You're Means You Are!
If you ever find yourself debating whether to use “your” versus “you’re,” just think back to Ross’s unforgettable grammar rant: “Y-O-U-R means your, Y-O-U-apostrophe-R-E means you are!”
4. Some of the Best Relationships Start as Friendships
Falling in love with your best friend is scary, but oftentimes, it’s worth it. Having someone who knows you inside and out and already loves you as a friend makes the relationship that much stronger.
5. There Is a Lobster for Everyone
Now, I’m not talking about those red crustaceans. I’m talking about soul-mates! Maybe it’s someone who has been right in front of you all along, or maybe just someone you’ve met along the way; there’s a lobster out there for all of us.
6. You Were Never, Ever, EVER “on a Break”
The term “on a break” does not mean broken up! It is not a free ticket to get with someone else, especially if you plan to still be with that person. Also, if the person you are “on a break” with writes you a letter explaining how they feel, no matter how lengthy it may be, read it!
7. Don’t Get Into Another Relationship If You’re Not Completely Over Your Ex
You may be able to suppress and deny it for a while, but eventually your true feelings will come through. You don’t want to be that person who says the wrong name at the altar!
8. If You’re Together, Don’t Hide It
Being secretive about a relationship may be fun and exciting at first. However, once real feelings arise, things can and will get complicated! Monica and Chandler tried out the whole “they don’t know we know that they know we know” thing for a while, but soon realized that being truthful and not hiding how you feel is a much better route.
9. What Is Meant to Be Will Eventually Find Its Way
From the time Ross laid eyes on his sister’s high school friend, he was extremely infatuated with Rachel. Many years, divorces, and almost-marriages later, they found each other again. Rachel found herself falling completely in love with Ross, the guy she barely noticed in high school, and his quirky ways. Their relationship was a roller coaster nonetheless, but they somehow always found their way back to each other.
