Ten Reasons to Be Excited For Sophomore Year

Freshman year was good. But, lets be real, sophomore year is going to be great.

Ten Reasons to Be Excited For Sophomore Year

1. You Won't Get Lost

After being on campus for a year, I am pretty sure I know where everything is. Now I won't have to ask for directions or where the bathroom is.

2. No More Dorms

Two words: air conditioning. Also, no more gross communal bathrooms or dealing with RA's. I will be able to walk around barefoot and not be afraid of catching a disease. Did I mention air conditioning?

3. You Know How To Battle Exams (and Survive)

Adjusting to college exams and schedules can be hard without knowing what to expect. Now I do, and am ready to pass with flying colors...hopefully.

4. No Orientation Week

Being sweaty, uncomfortable and forced to play a million ice breakers is something I am glad I can pass on this year. I will enjoy watching the freshman trudge back to their dorms from the comfort of my kiddie pool.

5. Knowing All The Best Study Spots

Trying to find a spot to study is sometimes awkward and uncomfortable (especially if you walk into someone's private study session.) Knowing where to go and where to avoid is key.

6. Taking Advantage Of Every Opportunity

I won't lie, I did not receive a gold star for involvement freshman year. I am determined to get more involved and actually follow through with commitments. Seriously, binging on Netflix every night can be fun, but so can going to a new club and meeting new people. It can be rewarding for you now and in the future.

7. You Know What You're Studying

After being an exploratory (undecided) student for most of my freshman year, I know what I am going to study! I am taking classes towards my major and I could not be more excited about it!

8. Knowing How To Schedule Classes

Picking what classes to take can be tricky, especially doing by yourself. I didn't know I was supposed to do it on my own, where was my advisor? I went through the stress of making up multiple schedules to see that they were all ruined. Hopefully, after going through the mayhem that is scheduling classes twice, I think I will be able to handle it.

9. Living With Your Best Friends

I got to choose who I am going to live with for sophomore year and I couldn't be more excited. Not knowing what to expect my freshman year was scary. Now, I know exactly what I am getting myself into. I get to be with my best friends everyday, what could be be better than that?

10. Not Taking A Second For Granted

Freshman year can be tricky and lonely. As a sophomore, I realize how fast time flies. I am so happy where I am, and I don't want to waste the time I do have at school. I am going to live in every moment at the beautiful campus I now call home.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
