I listen to a lot of music, mostly by well-known artists like Panic! At The Disco, Of Monsters and Men, and Sleeping At Last. But there is also a great deal of good songs by artists with varying degrees of obscurity. I'm always trying to point people towards these sorely underappreciated musicians, so here's my Odyssey article, exhorting you to take a listen.

1. Calm Your Soul - Paper Route.

Paper Route is a weird little group with viscerally bitter and Biblical themes. I like this song best for its bridge.

2. Liar - The Arcadian Wild.

You've heard me reference this one before. But here I am, referencing it again. So good.

3. Blood Stutter - Handsome Ghost.

I don't remember how I found Handsome Ghost. Their sound is soft but dark and very aesthetically pleasing.

4. All The King's Horses - Karmina.

Karmina kind of falls into that dark, moody female singer category. But unlike most of those dark, mood female singers, I actually like her.

5. My Dear - Kina Grannis.

Kina Grannis, a YouTube star with the likes of Tyler Ward, writes lovely, plain songs that are honest and endearing.

6, Elysium - Bear's Den.

I really like the themes in this song. The music video for this is interesting as well--footage from a trip, no posing or editing. Paired with the song, it's a powerful piece because of the lyrics fighting cynicism and raw video of people embracing and living their life, whatever that may mean to them.

7. Fire With Fire - The Night Terrors of 1927.

The only reason I gave this artist a listen was because of the name. But intriguing name aside, their music is quite good. I like the themes in this song especially--there are a lot of delicious lyric ironies.

8. Marigold - Mother Falcon.

Mother Falcon is a bit like The Arcadian Wild, insomuch lots of instruments and singing to match. This song is a bit of a whirlwind, and not something I'd normally like, but I like all of it--the music, the lyrics, and even the pace.

9. Fine on My Own - Trapdoor Social ft. The Pride of Mesa Ridge.

I just recently found this song. I'm still working my way through it in terms of lyrics and their meaning to me. But it's a fascinating and discordant piece of music and ideas, both sacrilegious and not. Also, the music video is pretty neat, with the Mesa Ridge High School Marching Band.

10. Gold - Former Vandal ft. Lauren Sanderson.

Former Vandal is one of my all time favourites in the world of obscure artists. Gold has a very different sound than their other work, like Wolves EP, but it's all good and dark work.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
