Ten Things in My Closet I Can't Live Without

These are the staples in my closet this season.

"I've got nothing to wear!"

Yeah, I've said it. Yeah, it's not true. I always end up digging something out of my closet to wear, whether I like the outfit or am just settling for it. My closet is packed full of the good, bad, and ugly (but so comfortable, am I right?) options. There's a lot to chose from (even if my picky mind says otherwise sometimes), but here are some of the items that get the most mileage-- aka, the stuff I can't live without.

1. Gray blazer

This one's a new addition to my closet this year, but it's my go-to jacket now. Neutral gray goes with just about everything. And let's face it, the thing is a confidence-booster in fabric form. Dressy, casual, it doesn't matter. It works. And it'll make you feel like a full-scale CEO.

2. Maroon skinny jeans

And really, skinny jeans in general. They're a daily staple. But maroon ones, specifically, are a really nice way to add a touch of professionalism to an outfit (while still getting away with jean comfort). Besides, maroon=festive. Perfect tone for autumn and winter.

3. Converse high-tops

I mean, have you ever tried them on? They feel FANTASTIC. And if you've got even an ounce of hipster or vintage blood in you (and even if you don't), they're the perfect thing to complete your look.

4. Oversized button-up

Tuck it in and roll up the sleeves. Want a breezy look? Try white or a light, solid shade. Want a rustic look? Plaid. Want a casual daily look? Stripes. Whatever style you're looking for, an oversized button-up's probably got your back.

5. Plain black dress

The fashion industry has been singing the praise of the black dress for ages, and they're not lying.

6. Leggings (lined and unlined)

Obviously, you're going to want some lined leggings under that skirt (or even those jeans) when it's -15 degrees outside, and you've gotta brave the snowstorm. But also, those unlined leggings come in handy in the warmer parts of the year to spice up an outfit or (let's be real) for when we're too lazy to shave.

7. Oversized cable knit sweater

There may be an oversized theme running through my closet this year, but honestly, that stuff is so comfy. I don't know about you, but swimming in an abundance of warm, cozy fabric is exactly how I plan to spend my winter. It feels like pajamas, but it looks cute and socially acceptable to wear in public? Win win!

8. Tall leather boots

Brown and black. Love 'em both. And I'm not opposed to taupe either (except for the way it's spelled, for crying out loud. Looks like a fake word). I know ankle boots are in style and whatever, but knee-high boots are classic... and go fantastically with boot socks.

9. Linen pants

I feel like some kind of guru when I put them on. Seriously. You've gotta try some.

10. Fun fuzzy socks

Come on. Who doesn't need some fuzzy socks in their life? And who wouldn't want to be able to say "I'm wearing boots and no one knows about the little sloth faces on my socks underneath!" on a daily basis?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
