Ten 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' Quotes Every College Student Needs To Hear

Sometimes people don't want to watch older movies because they think they're "too old" and "boring." Just because these movies don't feature iPhones, doesn't mean they aren't relevant to today! Here are ten lessons we can learn from the 1961 classic, "Breakfast at Tiffany's."

1. People don't belong to people.

During college we meet so many new people. Some turn into close friends, others turn into significant others, and others turn into nameless faces you see on campus. Regardless of who you meet or what clubs you may join, never let those clubs or people define who you are. You are your own person.

2. The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you're afraid and you don't know what you're afraid of.

Every college student can relate to this feeling. Maybe you're afraid of the future. Maybe it's the exam you have the next day. Or maybe you're just not quite sure what you're afraid of, but you have this suddenly overwhelmingly sense of anxiety. It's OK to get this feeling from time to time, you're not the only one who does.

3. Anyone who ever gave you confidence, you owe them a lot.

Being confident in yourself can be hard at college. You're constantly trying to beat out others to get an internship, and you may get a low grade on an exam and it could do some damage to your self-esteem. It's important to remember to believe in yourself and remain confident.

4. I'll never get used to anything. Anyone that does, they might as well be dead.

Nobody likes feeling as though they're living in a rut. We're curious people—we like exploring, discovering, and stepping out of our comfort zone. We do everything in our power to mix things up, even though sometimes that can be tricky with the monotonous routine of going to classes five days a week.

5. I'm just crazy about Tiffany's!

Because let's be honest—what girl doesn't dream about getting that little blue box??

6. I don't want to own anything until I find a place where me and things go together.

We are all trying to find our place in this world. We are picturing our future, trying to figure out what things fit in our future, and what things don't. And it will take some time, but one day we will find that place where everything makes sense!

7. You can always tell what kind of a person a man thinks you are by the earrings he gives you.

Girls in college, and girls in general, should never let another person determine their worth—even their boyfriend, or maybe it's the guy you're crushing on in class.

8. If we're going to be friends let's get one thing straight right now. I hate snoops.

Nobody likes snoops. Everyone likes their privacy and having a personal life. Your friends are supposed to be there for you through think and thin—even if that means being a shoulder to cry on and listen to you without interrupting you. Sometimes we don't want someone's advice or opinion, we just need to know that somebody is there to listen.

9. No matter where you run, you just end up running into yourself.

It is very true that we are our own worst critics. And in college, this could not be truer. When we don't do as well as we'd hoped on an exam, we immediately begin blaming ourselves—we should've studied harder, done more practice questions, stayed up later, etc. Is that really worth it? It's okay to have constructive criticism and figure out what you could've done differently, but don't be too hard on yourself. Remember to be nice to yourself, because you're pretty awesome!

10. If I could find a real-life place that could make me feel like Tiffany's, then—then I'd buy some furniture.

Everyone needs to find their Tiffany's. It is that place where they feel at peace, as if nothing can hurt them or bring them down. It is that place you equate with utter happiness. Never stop looking for your Tiffany's.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
