Sometimes, it’s hard to put into words how we’re feeling. And who has more feelings and fewer words to put them into than a teenager? That’s why we have music. Here is a list of songs that I believe capture the feelings and elements of youth in their own way.
1. "Twist and Shout" - The Beatles
If you’ve seen "Ferris Bueller’s Day off," you already know why I chose this. Also because it’s a song that makes you feel like you’re having the time of your life even if you’re just singing along alone in your car with the windows down.
2. "Naive" - The Kooks
This one I chose because it’s just about impossible to be wise and young at the same time. It’s a good time to make dumb decisions and not really know what you’re talking about.
3. "Wannabe in L.A" - Eagles of Death Metal
If you have parents, or siblings, or just about anyone in your life that can annoy you, you probably at some point in the past 18 years dreamed about getting away. California perhaps?
4. "Make You Feel Better" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
This song is about when you feel like you have nothing, but you still have your people. Your friends and family and people that love you, and how that’s really all you need.
5. "Beverly Hills" - Weezer
Because when you listen to this song, you feel as if the world is in your palms, and you can be and do anything you want.
6. "Let It Loose" - The Rolling Stones
There are few things in life better than the feeling of relief. And letting go is it’s own form of relief. We all need to do that every now and then.
7. "Hey Ya!" - Outkast
Because you’re lying if you say you don’t enjoy every second of this song.
8. "Dark Necessities" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
This song is about how everything that’s happened to you makes you who you are, even the bad things. It’s all apart of you and you wouldn’t be you without them.
9. "Feels Like Summer" - Weezer
This one proves that summer has it’s own indistinguishable feeling that no one can explain but we all recognize.
10. "The Less I Know The Better" - Tame Impala
As I get older, I more I understand the meaning behind the title of this song. The more I know the more confused I become, but I guess that’s what it means to grow up.
