Who is actually listening?

Is technology listening to everything we do?

Have you ever googled something or even spoke about something to someone around your phone, and the next day an ad for that exact thing pops up? Have you ever thought about the fact someone can be listening to you at all times? Well, I believe technology is listening and here's why.

I may not think they are listening 24/7, but they definitely have trigger words that will show up in the future in an ad. I believe if you google one thing once, or click on an ad once, more of the same item will show up. This has happened to me so many times I stopped counting. Now that I mentioned it try looking up something simple but something you would not see every day. I once looked up a planner at the beginning of the year, it took months before I stopped seeing ads for planners. I kept having ads pop up on everything, and I already purchased one so I wasn't going to get a new one. But I never once saw a planner ad until after I searched that first time. It's like ads are designed specifically for you, not like as an audience but on your own devices, it is usually something you would be interested in.

I have also heard there are trigger words online where the government or FBI may put you on a watch list if you google certain things that can be harmful to the future or maybe considered suspicious. If someone is googling how to make a home bomb you may want to keep an eye on them. They might not have someone following them 24/7, but they must be making a note somewhere documenting that they noticed the behavior. Just me typing this may put me on that list, but I also wanted to express my concerns with everyone on how I feel about technology.

Technology is always changing and people change with it, without even noticing, so is it possible they are taking advantage of you. It is definitely possible in today's time. What is your opinion on the matter, and what should we do? If they are listening is it still our right to have privacy when everything is so accessible. People say whatever you put on the internet never goes away, is this true? I'm sure whatever you feel nothing you do will change, but it is always good to just be aware of what is happening around you when you are going about your normal day. Take a moment and just think, and form your own opinion, and see how you start to notice things more.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
