Has technology really increased our communication?

I'm not saying all technology is bad, but it just seems to have tainted how we communicate with one another.

Sure, with technology we have been able to get connected 24 hours a day, seven days a week, on multiple platforms, but does that mean we are really communicating? I’ve felt in so many moments where texting someone just doesn't actually feel like you're communicating. It is as if all the words are rehearsed, thought over and it simply doesn't feel real. Sometimes talking on the phone, people just feeling uncomfortable because they never do it. I find that people don't even like to make eye contact as much as they used to. It's times like that, when I wonder if technology is really helping us communicate.

What ever happened to a handwritten note?

Someone took time out of their day to write down their thoughts and feelings for you and send it out. It might take a little longer but I think those forms of communication are so much more personal. We need answers right when we ask the question. We panic when someone does not respond right away. Since everyone is always on their phones why wouldn't they respond the moment they receive a message? That is something our society has lost, patience. We don’t want to wait for things to happen, we need instant gratification.

Imagine a group of people sitting together at a restaurant. Then, imagine no talking, only clicking fingers on the screen of a phone.

This is our reality today.

I’ve see so many groups of teenagers and people of all ages sitting together and they're not even talking. They are together physically but their minds are somewhere else, thinking about that Instagram they just posted or if someone out there likes their most recent tweet. They are on their phones, and that's when I think technology has gotten in the way. We seem to be on our devices constantly, we forget to look around at the people that we are with and cherish that time, instead of updating Instagram every second.

The people in our life are important and everyday we can spend with them should be cherished because time is never guaranteed. We need to relate back in time and just be in the moment. So, take some time and put the phone down and just enjoy life with the people around you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
