I Speak Hip Hop

I never took the chance to discuss the whole Kardashian-West v. Swift debacle because I couldn't formulate the right words Since this story is going to be around for awhile because of the legal aspect and the fact that Kim is going to milk this, I decided to speak on it to tell you: I am #TEAMNEITHER!

If you don't know what's going on, this lovely article by BuzzFeed can give you the run down of what's up. If you want the rundown, Kim Kardashian-West called out Taylor Swift for being a "liar" and trying to make her husband, Kanye West, an "asshole" for his lyrics for the song, "Famous" by posting a video for her confirming her consent for the lyrics. This turned the internet upside down!

Did I rejoice? Oh yes, I did as I do not stand for Taylor Swift, but I don't stand for Kim either. Conflicted I was. My worst enemy trashing my other enemy? Dear lord, I was caught between a rock and a hard place, but I decided team neither. You might be thinking, "Elandra, why don't you like either person?" Well, reader, let me tell you.

Taylor Swift, to me, was always fake. Being fake surprised when she wins awards that she knows she was going to win (Except for 2016's "Album of the Year" at the Grammys...Kendrick Lamar SHOULD have won that and she shouldn't have beaten Beyonce at MTV's 2009 VMA Awards, but I digress). Her fake "GIRL POWER, FEMINISM" aesthetic disgusted me as if you stop doing what she wants you do, she will try anything to destroy you (i.e. Katy Perry). She lies or acts like a pawn on others to make herself look good (i.e. Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, and Calvin Harris). She tries to be the perfect person, but ends up on her ass every time. Kanye West, slick, made you famous, darling as nobody was crowding for Taylor, except for the country listening crowd and you left them. We give Taylor Swift too much credit, she hasn't done anything amazing, musicality to put her on pedestal. Her songs are the same "oh woe is me" bullsh*t. She's the "Regina George" of the music industry like Katy Perry. She will bat her eyelashes and smile in your face to stab you in your back, I hate hypocrites, which brings me to...

Kim Kardashian-West, not a fan. I respect her business savvy as she turned a negative into a positive and that she's down for her husband, but I never liked her thirst for attention. She posts a picture of herself naked, but cried about being naked on her TV shows. She's a cultural appropriator, along with the rest of her messed up family. She only mess with African Americans when it's convenient for her i.e. Kanye and bevel of previous relationships or when it looks cute. My culture ain't something to take and act like it's not there. I don't appreciate that.

So Taylor and Kim, I don't like either of ya'll. #TEAMNEITHER

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
