I am so fortunate to be a college athlete. Although practice and lift might not always be fun and games, I couldn't picture college any other way. Anyone who is a college athlete can probably relate. I also think another amazing part of being an athlete is how close you become with your teammates. They end up becoming some of your best friends.
Besides sharing the love for the same sport, you and your teammates all have so much in common. Usually, you are all complaining together about how sore you are or how much you aren't looking forward to today's practice. This can build some real comradery since you all get to suffer together. When you are disappointed about a loss or something happens within a team, you all come together to support each other. If you are feeling upset or need advice you can always go to your teammates for advice and even a few laughs. Enough about the hard times though, you teammates are also right along with you in the good times. You all get excited (or nervous) together before a game or a meet. You support each other when you have a good race or make a good play. You bash the other teams you don't like together. You give each other fashion advice and serve as each others wing women or wing man.
You spend countless hours a week with these people outside of practice. Between eating lunch together, eating dinner after practice, hanging out on the weekends, and probably even being roommates with them you are constantly with each other. With all the inside jokes, cheers, constant photo taking, and crazy times you have shared together, it's impossible to not consider them your besties. And yes, there are disagreements sometimes too, but some how everyone seems to work things out, because how long can you stay mad at your best friends.
