To All The Teachers Who Made Me Who I Am Today, Thank You

When you are in college you have entered a whole new world of learning. You are not required to attend classes. The entire class and expectations are laid out in the syllabus before you can even get too deep into the course. You have the option to drop and add courses. You truly take charge of your education. Thinking about how we have the power to do such a thing amazes me. For 12 years we were told what to take and how to study, read, and write to gain the most effective form of learning. All of that learning to prepare us for our final step in education, college. So warning I am going to get sappy for a little bit. I would not be the person I am today without my teachers. So teachers out there thank you for impacting me.

Dear Teachers,

Thank you! Thank you times a million for being who you are. Thank you for always pushing me to do my best and seeing something within me when I didn't see anything.

You taught me that it takes hard work and an effort to try to accomplish anything. You challenged me when I didn't want to be challenged.

You saw something in me from the start, I lacked some abilities and had no idea what was wrong. You found out nothing was wrong with me, I just learn differently.

Thank you for teaching me to be a leader. We are all destined to do great things and you gave me the first opportunity to serve and lead.

Not only was I a leader, my leadership skills were cultivated in a classroom where you taught us it is okay to dream and dream big.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to fail and for trying to give me countless opportunities to learn. Thank you for serving in a difficult field and a thankless job.

Lastly, thank you for teaching me all the skills I didn't know I needed to be a successful student and person. Thank you for being my "moms" when I needed it and always encouraging me.

College is a challenge just like you said it would be, but it is less of a challenge because of all your hard work and dedication you invest in your students' lives, just like mine.

Sincerely,

A student who didn't say thank you enough.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
