Taylor Swift. Racist.
'Cuz baby now we got bad blood. Taylor Swift has a new battle to face; and nope, it's not a Jonas brother or John Mayer. Taylor Swift is being called a racist. I don’t know about you, but I was too focused on Eastwood to be concerned with anything else in that video.
The racist comments have come from critics from Jezebel and NPR, according to the Guardian. “Taylor Swift went to Africa to film a music video and there is only white people in it,” reported an article on Fader. I watched the music video, and yes, there is not much diversity at all. However, there also weren’t that many people in the lengthy three-minute, 54-second video. Counting off the top of my head: there was Taylor, Scott, and a lion.
This video does present a certain time in history, but more than that, I don’t believe Taylor was writing this song to depict a time of racism and the devaluation of other races in different nations. I really just think this is another song about a guy she liked and surprise … it doesn’t work out. The suspense killed me again. The point is, I highly doubt this love song was purposefully written in order to portray the White Colonial fantasy.
But the haters are going to hate hate hate … hate hate … hate. So I am guessing Taylor is probably just going to shake it off. The rain will come falling down and she will be washed clean of these accusations in a week.
My question for the media is why are they not focusing on Women Empowerment? Taylor has continually put women on a pedestal, making them feel important and bringing a new era of confidence for all women. Why do they choose to focus on the negative and on an accusation they had to go looking for? I wish the media could explain their need to blast this pop star. Let’s talk about Miley Cyrus instead? The one that is promoting the spread of drugs and disease.
Taylor Swift’s music video director, Joseph Kahn, answered the critics by smacking down the accusation, “My long time producer Jil Hardin who did Power Rangers, Blank Space, and Wildest Dreams is a super hot black woman FYI.”
So what can the media say now? The black producer is racist? I’m thinking they will have to use their creative juices to think of something else to fabricate or twist. Taylor Swift, a racist. What’s next? Kanye announces his run for President? Oh wait, he got their before me.
So tell me what you think. Is Taylor really a racist, or just a wanderlust that happens to fall in love in an African desert?
