Taylor Swift has been my most played artist from the curly hair and cowboy boots stage to her days of shaking it off. Her lyrics just hit home even if I have never been in any situation close to hers. Here are some of my favorites:
1. "But when you think Tim McGraw/ I hope you think my favorite song/ the one we danced to all night long"
Have I ever danced with someone to a Tim McGraw song? No. Not a single time; however, it does not hinder me from getting emotional every single time I listen to this song in my car.
2. "As far as I'm concerned/ You're just another picture to burn"
Never in my entire life have I ever burned a single photograph. For many reasons, including the fact that it is expensive to print off photos. This may be impractical, but I am telling you Taylor Swift had seven year old me wanting to burn my photographs with my future pick-up truck driving ex-boyfriend already. I doubt that I will ever live that out, but Taylor Swift had me prepared for it.
3. "You're on the phone with your girlfriend, she's upset/ She's going off about something that you said/ 'Cause she doesn't get your humor like I do"
Passionate. That is the word that I would use to describe how I obnoxiously sang this song. I don't know who my nine year old self thought belonged with me. Probably Nick Jonas if I had to take a guess. This was my favorite song to play on my MP3 Player.
4. "Marry me, Juliet, you'll never have to be alone/ I love you and that's all I really know/ I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress/ It's a love story, baby just say yes"
How romantic. Honestly, it's just a love story. This music video was a dream. I would sit at the desktop computer in our living room and watch it at least 7 times in a row on the daily.
5. "And I don't know why but with you/ I'd dance in a storm in my best dress/ Fearless"
To be honest, I would completely and totally be up for putting on my senior prom dress and dancing in the rain to this song.
6. "Memorize what it sounded like when your dad gets home/ Remember the footsteps, remember the words said/ And all your little brother's favorite songs"
This one still gets to me today. "Never Grow Up" will always be a tear-jerker.
7. "I'll bet you got pushed around/ Somebody made you cold/ But the cycle ends right now"
A jam with great advice on how to deal with mean people.
8. "But you are not the kind of boy/ Who should be marrying the wrong girl"
"Speak Now" is such a hit. I don't think I have ever sang a song with so much emotion about barging in on someone's wedding.
9. "I miss your tanned skin, your sweet smile/ So good to me, so right"
We all knew that this song was about Taylor Lautner, and if I am honest, I missed him too. Twelve year old me was obsessed with him.
10. "Cause I see sparks fly whenever you smile"
I would be lying if I said that I knew sparks didn't actually fly when you met the boy that you loved.
11. "I say 'I hate you,' we break up, you call me, 'I love you'"
I have never been in a position to relate to this song, but it has not stopped my position of aggressively and sassily singing this song.
12. "Remind her how it used to be, be/ Yeah, with pictures in frames/ Of kisses on cheeks, cheeks"
Honestly, this song is so cute and happy. It belongs in a romantic comedy.
13. "And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate/ Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake"
Lyrical genius. Pure poetry. Motto for centuries to come. Just shake it off.
14. "I'm sorry, the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now/ Why? Oh!/ 'Cause she's dead"
This is the lyric that broke my heart. I wish the old Taylor could please come to the phone right now.
