Kim Kardashian had just exposed Taylor Swift on Sunday night to the entire world by uploading multiple SnapChat videos of a phone conversation. The conversation was between Kim's husband, Kanye West, and Taylor swift, in which they were discussing the lyrics to Kanye's song "Famous." For those of you who don't know, apparently Taylor came out and complained that she did not give permission and was unaware of these lyrics when they were published. The song could be seen as slightly offended as it refers to Taylor as a bitch and that Kanye had made her famous. The lyrics also go off and say "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex," which Kanye explicitly told Swift over the phone. Previously, however, Taylor claimed to be hurt by this song and had told the press this. But- on the other hand, this SnapChat strongly suggests she felt otherwise.
“I think this is a really cool thing to have,” Kanye told Taylor. “I know, I mean it's like a compliment,” she genuinely replies.
To take it to the next level, Taylor even shows a great amount of gratitude for the phone call telling her about the lyrics in the first place: “Go with whatever line you think is better. It's obviously very tongue in cheek either way. And I really appreciate you telling me about it. That's really nice.”
Long story short, after Kim Kardashian posted a series of SnapChats revealing Taylor Swift approval of a few in the lyrics in the song "Famous," many people were shocked. Everyone had accused Taylor of being a bit sketchy and two faced, since during the phone conversation she referred to Kanye's suggestions as a compliment. But- don't worry, Taylor was sure to quickly respond to this drama by posting a picture of notes on her Instagram with the caption: "That moment when Kanye West secretly records your phone call, then Kim Posts it on the Internet." Here's what her note said:
Where is the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call me 'that bitch' in his song? It does't exist because it never happened. You don't get to control someone's emotional response to being called 'that bitch' in front of the entire world. Of course I wanted to like the song. I wanted to believe Kanye when he told me that I would love the song. I wanted us to have a friendly relationship. He promised to play the song for me, but he never did. While I wanted to be supportive of Kanye on the phone call, you cannot 'approve' a song you haven't heard. Being falsely painted as a liar when I was never given the full story or played any part of the song is character assassination. I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative, one that I have never asked to be a part of, since 2009.
I think her Instagram note-post was honestly very well said. On top of that, it was cool, calm, and pretty collected. Overall, I think she accomplished what she wanted to. She cleared up the misunderstanding. While many people thought she was being hypocritical, she made some really valid points about the nature about the accusations and the reality of the situation. Kanye did not make it clear that Swift would be referred to as that 'bitch' in his song, which millions would be listening to. Additionally, it is fair to say that someone can't approve a song over the phone. I can only imagine the disappointment Taylor must be feeling right now. This just comes to show, there is always two sides to a story.
